No being the "main"-tank is boring, stressful and hard. Being Offtank is fun, running around chasing adds, taunting boss when MT gets debuffs, dpsing boss between add spawns, aoe-tanking trash and going dps when the encounter only needs one tank is more my cup of tea.

I was a maintank in Kara 2 years+ ago.
I have to say I didn't exacly enjoy it and I stil don't realy do it. Once you overgear it it becomes just dull.
If you on the other hand have 24k hp and no defcap and are tanking KT+2 adds in Nax10 cause the maintank was stupid enough to stand in the red beam then it does become kinde fun. Chaining CD's, eyes on your healthbar and doing everything you can to stay alive.
G2 say that for raids especiely 25mens I wanne DPS. Luckely I switched guilds once Kara was on farm and joined a SSC/TK guild as fury and have been DPS ever since. I stil tank and I enjoy it(did a 2hour Nax10 with my guild me being maintank, solotanked pretty much every encounter except for Thadius, patchie and that second bos in plague.

With that stats? Only if your healers are VERY Overgeared
And it isnt possible to solo tank Gluth
With good DPS it is :p
Had a rogue tanking him for a fiew seconds though after I died :p.
+that 24k hp stuf was months ago, im now in 4/5valo, 30k+ hp, al got it for offspec or running Nax25 as DPS while needing on protspec(as I didnt need anything for DPs spec anymore) in Pug's. Mainspec is arms with Nax25/Ulduar10 epics and that my friend is way undergeared compared to the persons I ran with. Think each and everyone of them had full Ulduar25 gear. The healing was simply awsome I have to say. We had 3 furywarriors raging havoc on trash often tanking one each and they simply didnt get in danger of dieing. also tanked al trash as fury in heroic UP up to first bos(tank AFK)in berserker stance WW'ing away f.ex.
Nice try though :p.

That is called getting carried :) so yo cant rly say it is 'tankable' with 24k and below the defcap
And as a proof i dont talk crap
http://profiler.wowhead.com/?profile=eu.stormscale.ttrooper
(SHiver is unenchanted cuz i got it 2 days ago, will fix it before the next raid)
And on the topic, it DOES feel awesome to MT :D
You can hardly call having 30k hp in a Naxx10 getting carried...
One of the warriors had a better protset then i did also for his offspec and we could have done it the normal way but how much fun is that?

Is it really as "cool" as it looks? Do you generally get more respect in your guild? Just really looking for general overall thoughts on your experiences as a MT.
I've been tanking since just before dual specs came along. I know, late starter >.> It's still my offspec, and when we get a group together I always try to find a tank before putting my hand up for the job.
Despite that, I thoroughly enjoy tanking. In 5 mans, I love practicing fast runs, setting a quick pace and being aware of my group enough to know when to slow down/speed up, so the whole run feels fluid.
In a raid as MT I enjoy the challenge of knowing that 3 seconds after I slap the boss I've got to keep him from running at the fire mage who decided his first move would be to proc
everything
he has and hit the 'nuke' button...on top of keeping him off the other 24 people in my raid.
As OT, I find running around and picking up everything the MT misses/can't get to be entertaining. Also keeping an eye on my MT buddy so I can be ready to taunt off him if the healers need breathing room, or if (god forbid) he should die.
Having said that...there are certain frustrations with tanking, but they're mostly dps-centred, and honestly only last until you 'forget' where you put your taunt button >:)
As for our guildmates...if you know your class, know your role, know the fights, and can outthreat some of our more geared (read 'insane') dps, you get the respect. Although, if I'm honest, healers get more respect than tanks, just because we have a ton of tanks and about 4 healers /sigh
