Pray, what is the point of this ability? Tooltip reads: "Distracts the target to attack you, but has no effect if the target is already attacking you."
I don't get it. I _want_ the target to attack me? I've used it in a couple of different of situations but it has no appreciable effect. I must be missing something. Enlighten me.

easy version
tank is dead and what is better
A) that mob go after you (DPS)
B) the resto druid who can res the tank ?
Distracting+ deterrence = 5 sec time so tank can pick it up if it got loss...you can always FD at end if you not watn to die

Boss comes after you then goes back to tank and one-shots him as he was just ressed with no buffs :)

it's usefull if you kite on gluth too.it has small cd so every time a mob respawn you can taunt it with this or if u loose aggro from a mob you can taunt it back with distacting shot.i always use it in any raid if a mob turns to a healer or for example if ot in emalon doesnt see the respawn add i distract and run close to ot until he takes aggro.it's very usefull shot.it's great for cc too.distracting+frost trap(freeze trap etc).

Once upon a time WoW required something that used to be known as Crowd Control...pre-WOTLK posts referred to it as CC. You, the hunter, would move to the side and lay a trap...tank would pull and you would fire off your distracting shot at the mob you were in charge of CCing. He/she would run to you and get froze. You would then dps things in a particular kill order.
Some fights you would have to use LoS to trap a caster...ah sweet nostalgia about the more challenging and fun days of yore...
Ah yes, I remember tripple trapping as Survival. Sweet, sweet nostalgia ...

It can used in pvp very well if you think about it. If your alli is about to eat a big cast, slap that on the caster and it kills the cast, i also use this if i am about to eat a poly and the mage has that crazy mulit mage mirror $%^& up so i get hit out of it. Its also fun for kiting the scarab things in anub if they are eating meele

Question.....would distracting shot after a MD make it as if the MD target taunted?......
Nope. Distract is a taunt, there is no way to pass its threat on, cause there is no threat. It used to work that way, but not anymore. If you do distracting it is coming for you--even after a MD

To be more accurate, Distracting Shot is a
fixate
effect like
Mocking Blow
,
Challenging Roar
or, on an NPC,
Fixate
of the
Bloodthirsty Tundra Wolf
in Utgarde Pinnacle. It forces a target to become fixated on the caster of the fixate effect for
n
seconds
but has no effect threat levels
.
A
taunt
effect is defined as something that, when cast, sets your threat to the level of whatever your target's aggro target is. Most (if not all) taunt effects include a temporary fixate.
Taunt
,
Growl
,
Hand of Reckoning
-- all of these are
taunt
+
fixate
spells.

:o I wonder if you can use MD and then distracting shot? ^_^ Almost like a taunt, right?
