So Im a destro lock at heart. But alot of people keep asking me to try out affliction because its "mad crazy DPS".
On the raid dummy i can get over 3.7 k without foods and 3rd party buffs.
On the raid dummy i cant get my dps over 2K in affli spec under the same circumstances.
any help?
My rotation is LT-SB-Haunt-UA-Corr-CoA-Spam SB (drain soul obviously would come into play if the raid dummy would get below the HP threshhold)
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Aerie+Peak&n=Tiruvial&group=2
Any suggestions?

A mistake a lot of destro make is using CoA when they try Affliction on the dummy when they use CoE on the dummy as destruction. So basically you are self-nerfing Affliction's output by around 13%. Either use CoE on both or compare CoA on Affliction to CoD on Destruction. Otherwise, the difference that the execute phase makes shouldn't be discounted.

It isn't misleading at all. Generally, based off the group make up and what other locks decide (if there are any) you could always end up being the one who has to cast CoE. The thing is, it will make ALL of your spell damage go up, as well as everyone else's (Hunters, Mages, etc.). So you could, in a sense, look at your true dps as yours, plus all of the extra damage everyone's receiving from the curse.
CoA is put in that priority list for two reasons: First, it mostly assumes that either you have another lock casting CoE, or you have another class that substitutes for it. Second is that Affliction gains more of its dps (percent-wise) from CoA than Destro does, so in most cases a destro lock would be asked to put CoE over an affliction lock (Unless the destro so completely out-geared the afflock that it would be more beneficial to trade curses, of course).

first things first:
The above rotations assume an ideal raid setup with buffs/debuffs applied by the best classes. In all warlock rotations you should swap the damage curse for
Curse of Elements
if there is no other class in the raid who can apply it.
(See "
Q: What Curse should I be using
" for more details.)
Q: What curse should I be using?
A:
Only one curse can be cast by each warlock which basically means that we can either use a damage curse (
curse of agony
/
curse of doom
) or a debuff curse (
curse of elements
/
curse of weakness
) but we can't do both at the same time. For this reason we have to pay close attention to where the raid is getting their debuffs and adjust our curse use accordingly since the effect of our debuff curses can also be applied by other classes.
Because warlocks have to give up damage in order to apply these debuffs we should always try to use damage curses wherever possible. The damage curse used differs depending on spec.
Kangi's curse guide
contains a detailed breakdown of curse use, covering which other class's debuffs don't stack with our own and which damage curse each of our specs should use.
i think the info is all there with links to a more in-depth answer if required. if this is not explained well please let me know.
regarding merf's post.
i think people are misunderstanding him/her, the suggestion seems fair and makes sense to me. ideally in a raid setting no warlock will use CoE, we'll have a nice unholyDK diseasing it up and we'll all use damage curses. what we're dealing with is the inherent shortcomings of the test dummy.
the warlock has to choose between damage and buff curse in a way that they wouldn't in an actual raid, hence the test isn't a fair one and the results you see will be skewed.

<--him (that is annoyed by male BE, hence the female BE lock).
Yeah folks, seriously...I was talking about the dummy obviously, not an active raiding environment. For comparison, you should either debuff the dummy with CoE on both specs or neither. That's all.
In a raid environment no matter your spec, if you're the only lock there and there's no 13% debuff on the mob, you're using CoE every time. If it's there, then Aff can use CoA and destro CoD. It's not that difficult.
