True up to a point, except doesn't Defense-based avoidance still suffer from the same diminishing returns as stacking dodge/parry rating?
And while calling it a "cap" may be acceptable to some, it's not accurate. It may not be
optimal
to stack Defense beyond 540, but you can still get benefit out of it, unlike stacking Hit rating beyond the cap, since once you reach the cap additional points have no effect.Yes they do but as you can see the return for defense is better then dodge and parry beyond the 540 defense rating.

Actually what that thread shows is that it's best to combine defense rating and dodge rating. Well, before the 3.2 nerf of dodge anyway.

I think we really need to get rid of the def cap phrase. DEFENSE MINIMUM is what it really is and we all know this but the current nomenclature is throwing off the newbies.
but look at players they dont know what is def cap and you want another new word def min, i think lot of players will be confused

But I know I need some strong single targets healers like pala's or priest to keep me up with this gear.
Shamans are now very viable single target (i.e. tank) healers (they have been for a while actually).
By using
Glyph of Earth Shield
and
Glyph of Lesser Healing Wave
and with the new effects of
Ancestral Healing
and
Earth Shock
you can mitigate a lot of damage and put in some big heals.

All tanks have the attack speed debuff in some form. So I doubt shamans will be using earth shock much, except maybe for damage.

I cant read all that too old and grumpy...BUT, like already said def cap is def cap, I think you should be lookin at about 30k UB tbh, unless your a players player, and knows when to use your CDs, and in effect reduce the amount of healing you require.
just lookin at your armory, and I dont see why you cant do it, your stats are ok, just need to pump up the HP imo.
Socket your cuffs m8...ahh your slacking on your professions I see :P
I wouldnt worry too much, keep going your gear will improve fast if you try.
