So, I'm a level 80 Death Knight Tank, Frost Spec. I just hit level 80 2 days ago, and i was Defence capped that day. I didn't really have any troubles with that part. The Gear I am currently wearing is clearly stuff I have gotten while leveling. I'm an Engineer (level 450) and a miner (level 450).
This topic is about what I need to do to get into better gear. I don't want some big long spiel about how i should just do a few 25 man raids, or just a few 10 man raids. I'm just not ready to tank 10 man raids. I have done a couple of heroics though. If you see any of my gear that could ~
easily
~ be replaced, please say so. I do need all the help i can get and i would appriciate and help any one has to offer.
(i have completed Utgarde Keep, and half of the Nexus on heroic. If that can give you a gist of how i'm doing tanking wise (Not so good).)
I'm not sure what information you need to rip me appart to help me put it all back together so i'll give you it all.
I am really really new to level 80 and Death Knight Tanking and i have a few questions i wouldn't mind getting answer.
What Stats should I be focusing on getting higher?
(e.g agi, str, stam, armor, etc, etc, etc)
Should I be weild a 2h Weapon for tanking?
(two guys were argueing in trade chat)
Am i gearing up wrong?
(Have i been making all the wrong moves while i was leveling)
How many epics should i have before i attempt Nax?
There may be more questions to come... but until then.

That is my spec and current gear.
Stamina, Dodge, Parry, Defense and Expertise(especially after patch) will be the stats you are aiming for. Do not worry about your +hit until you are a little more geared.
The mace I am currently using Inevitable Defeat is by far the best tanking weapon until Ulduar comes out.
As far as gear for 10 man Naxxramas I had about 5 epics. Ring, necklace, mace, head, cloak and boots. I was sitting at about 27/28k HP. Also the sigil you buy from the vendor for 15 badges is awesome in terms of helping your avoidance make sure you get that asap.
What type of rotation are you using?

Thanks for answering those questions, that really helps. Another question though? why do i need to raise expertise.
Single Target Threat:
Icy Touch, Pestilence, Bloodstrike, Plague Strike, Obliterate, Rune Strike and Frost Strike.
Rinse, Repeat.
AoE Threat:
Death n' Decay, Pestilence, Howling Blast. If it's a large group and i need quick agro, i'll drop Death'n'Decay, Pestilence, then pop Hungering Cold+Deathchill+Howling blast and then drop a saronite bomb for good measure.
pallypound:
I had a look and there is alot of options out there for me at this point, i made this thread so people could help point out where i should be aiming, the list is already being formed as we speak, a appriciate you getting back to me. That trinket you mentioned is now top of the list!
Weednapper:
I have 2 epics already, were you a frost Knight and did you try it? Your spec sounds interesting to me at the moment. I will definately have a look.

Expertise prevents your attacks from being dodged and parried which is very nice.
Always use IT and PS before Pest.
My single target rotation is as follows:
Icy Touch(IT) -> Blood Strike(BS) -> Obliterate(OB) -> (Blood Tap if no Death Rune) OB -> Runic Power Dump(RPD)= Runestrike(RS)/Frost Strike(FS)
An alternate could be:
IT -> Plague Strike(PS) -> BS -> BS -> OB -> OB -> OB -> OB RPD = RS/FS
Multi Target Rotation:
Death N' Decay(DnD) -> IT -> PS -> Pestilence(Pest) -> Howling Blast(HB) (switch target) Pest -> BloodBoil -> RPD = RS/FS
As far as Deathchill and Hungering Cold, in my opinion they are completely useless. HC might be nice for a PvP situation, but none the less not great for PvE. Deathchill yeah it may be nice to have an instant crit but you can put that point into something else useful as well as the HC point.

You can afford blue gems at least, even without proffessions. Really, I don't mean to seem harsh, but do make an effort.
Here is a better spec.
You are at least good enough to do the easier heroics, such as VH. Speaking of VH, it has some awesome legplates, go do it every day.
Get Wyrmrest till Revered then Argent Crusade till Revered. Wyrmrest will give you a better chest, better boots, and a better cloak. Argent Dawn will give you better legs till you get the epics from VH, and an awesome head enchant.

You guys are both missing a significant boost to the melee DPS in your party. Usually, as a DK tank you're not pushing out as much damage as the DPS in your group, so why take Killing Machine over Icy Talons/Imp Icy Talons? There are few fights where a good tank actually has trouble keeping aggro away from the rest of the party, so those extra few crits aren't going to make or break your threat.
Also, Deepthought - no Glacier Rot = epic fail. That talent is a must have to any frost specced DK (tank or DPS).
Ditch Morbidity as well. DnD should be available between pulls anyways, and you're never going to use Death Coil as a RP dump with frost spec.

1) Doesn't have +10% damage to your main attacks

I got the PTR talent calc and the current one confused, sue me. Corrected it.
2) Requires you to refresh diseases often
At starting gear levels, there will be basically no difference between Plauge Strike + Ice Touch against a H/B or a OB.
And you get rid of that for what? For +12% damage on last 1/3 of the fight when tank has already enough threat and for 3% hit with just spells? Not worth it at all.
LOL. Take away the points in MercCom and guess what?
YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH POINTS IN FROST TO GO FURTHER IN THE TREE.
Seriously, did you even think about that? Can you not even do basic math?
DnD should be available between pulls anyways
It is the best threat generator per rune in our aresnal. You are a fool to not use it. It's worse than not taking Glaicer Rot /rolleyes

Icy Talons doesn't stack with W/F. Killing Machine's crit boost (6 PPM) does stack with every other crit boost.

At the OP, you just have the starter Profession Tanking Equipment, you should work on your factions ASAP. Also your main priority is boosting your health at least by 3k more. When you are sitting close to 25k Health, I would get into as many Vault and OS raids as possible, and hope for good drops and rolls. In the meantime, run H UK and Nexus daily to get tokens and more rep (be sure to buy and wear the different Talbards). Work on Wyrmrest Accord and Argent Crusader.
Here is a list of good upgrades:
Head:
Argent Crusade Helm Enchant
Neck:
Chained Military Gorget
Cloak:
Cloak of Peaceful Resolutions
Chest:
Breastplate of the Solemn Counci
l
Bracer:
+40 Stam to Bracers
Belt:
Waistguard of Living Iron
Legs:
Special Issue Legplates
or
Bolstered Legplates
from H VH
Finger:
Titanium Earthguard Ring
Trinket:
Seal of the Pantheon
Sigil:
Sigil of the Unfaltering Knight
Remember to run the Easy Heroics as a start to collecting gear. Get badges and reputations and keep building from there. Eventually you can run the harder ones or even start to do some raids. Good Enchants and Gems go a long way.
