I'm a blue deck. Do you think I'd just walk around with
no
counterspells?
^ lol
8 timmy peckers
8 counterspells
4 powersinks
8 non tapping 1/1 birds
4 sucken cities
4 air elementals
18 islands
Extremely annoying, really effective.
I would have to agree with you funden, I love a good burn deck ^_^

Then what's the point? Everyone will assume they win and use the best possible scenario to prove the other wrong.
Good question, what is the point? I was just talking up my white deck. You started naming cards not me. If you can name combos, so can I.

Bah, I show you when my mono white soldier deck wipes the table with you guys.
You started it. I just said I like blue more.

Using "the best possible scenario"? No, I believe that was you. I just bragged about my deck being the best (which is the second commandment of MTG), and then you pulled a combo out, so what was I supposed to do but to counter it with a combo of my own?

I wonder if there's a way to feasibly play a game online without cheating. I'd help to mediate one, but I'm not sure that it's a reasonable proposition :P

Is it possible to play an irl game without cheating? At least with online emulators you have a "combat log" of sorts, which records every action. OCTGN is the best emulator imo.

anyone play minecraft?
I did, until I figured out that if the point of the game was not dying to monsters, you could win by creating a 2x1x1 hole and putting dirt over it, and if the point of the game is to make ridiculously big bases for no reason, that just sounds boring.

Poor kids these days have to play with virtual legos :P

As long as the deck can't be rigged (i.e. independent party shuffles / deals), then how can it?
OCTGN looks interesting though.

Sure, if you had a completely controlled environment the possibility of getting away with cheating might be severely diminished, but how many games are completely controlled like that irl? :P

I was thinking tournaments, actually, rather than just purely casual games.
Having said that, I haven't played MTG since... I was 11? Back in '94 / '95.

You have to pay for it, which sucks, and why I don't play. I refuse to sink more money into magic.
Mirage
was the last set i ever bough a booster from. I have played with some of the current eldrazi decks in draft tournaments that my friends have asked me to go to, but I still will not pay money for cards =P

Business models change, I guess. Magic used to be a 'collectible card game' - there was prestige to be had in obtaining rare, powerful cards that other players didn't have. It's just not the same when it's all online, and it becomes just another homogenised game.
The eBay path that some of my friends went down was interesting though - buy a huge stack of cards off eBay, play with them until you're done, then resell them at cost price to the next guy.

Ebay is why the business model changed. That and the internet being a more viable way to play. I taught my friend to play, we had a TON of fun for about a week, then he went out, bought a pre-made super power deck for 200 bucks online and stomped me into the ground. Killing me every game in an average of 4 turns. Yup thats fun. We don't really play anymore. =/

IIRC, their approach was to buy a thousand odd cards, randomly hand them out, and play with random decks.
I do agree though, online trading is the death of such collectible card games.
TRUMPS-style collectible card games are entirely different though.

That's why I like open emulators like OCTGN, because you have access to all cards. It really then becomes a fully strategy game without having to worry about cost.

It's sorta the difference between playing a Pokemon Stadium match with your own Pokemon linked to your GB, and playing using the default max level Pokemon in game. There's less attachment to the game.
