I agree that all these changes are wacky. WoW will become more like Ragnarok Online, where everything is based off of stats, and not additional non-stat things on gear. (For example, in Ragnarok, INT gives you Magic Attack (spellpower) and Magic Defense, and AGI gives you Flee and Dodge, along with Crit %)
Think of something like a ilvl-232 item from Ulduar, with 550 SP on it. Instead, it'd have like, an additional +200 INT.
And with all SP coming from INT, and all this INT being added to gear, will max mana skyrocket? If all the SP on my current gear was turned to INT, I'd have at least 30k mana unbuffed.
As for Spriests having a spammable nuke, Good. Spriest DPS is @#$% right now, compared to other classes like Mage and DK. Maybe I've just got the wrong stats, but my DPS is far lower than the mage in my guild who's much lesser geared than me.

Hunters and shamans use mana. They don't need a stat that raises mana. Ahm... wait...
Really, that is totally against what blizzard has been doing.
Hunters use focus now and they said the shamans were going to benefit from haste the same way the other melee classes do through talents.
Pay more attention next time.
sorry, what? when did i say this?

gg Blizz, don't listen to the super-hardcore. Just because they are loud doesn't mean they represent all of us.
^ this.
I'm sick of there being sites like ElitistJerks (their existence, not the good folks who have done all the work there), because it means one thing -- there's only one correct way to play the game, and millions of wrong ways. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

There will always be people who are min-maxing their characters because they want or have to. I personally love reading EJ/Ensidia/plusheal and getting new ideas about gearing, gemming, glyphs, playstyle, etc.
People who are on bleeding edge content will always try and figure out "what works best". There cannont be "millions of right ways" to play the game. There will always be a best or better way out there.
Just because the masses are too lazy to do some research and, god forbid, read something that someone who took the time to figure out from scratch and post for the world to see and use doesn't mean they should water down the game to an absurdly brain dead level.
I never once had to research the best way to make it through World 8-3 of Mario. :P
Bad example, I know, but I stand by the point of it. We shouldn't have to RESEARCH the best way to play a game. It should come to us if we have the skill and perception to figure it out for ourselves.
If our damage comes from Spell Power, a good player will be able to know to stack more Spell Power. The bad ones will stack Agility. :P
And don't get me wrong here -- Min/Max'ing is great, and is obviously the difference between a progressing player and one who will never see Icecrown Citadel. But we shouldn't have to "research" how to get the best Max. We should be able to perceive it ourselves without having to use sources outside of the game itself.
Basically...
But when players have to be math nerds and spend 15mn on calculators and spreadsheets to know if an item is an upgrade or not because it became simply impossible to see it ingame, clearly there's something wrong (I know it's not a priest-stat, but ArPen is a good lolable exemple : it's so complicate Blizzard had to give theorycrafters the formulas...).
^ that.
I don't necessarily think there should be millions of right ways to play the game. Instead, as you said, I'd like there to be a "better" and a "best." I'd like to see more "outside-the-box" notions, and less, "If you don't spec __/__/__ you fail."

At the very least, the 5 extra talent points give Disc/Shadow hybrid serious potential once again for Arenas and perhaps be awesome for rated BGs. You'll have just enough points to grab Penance AND Silence, amongst a few other cool Shadow talents such as a shorter Shadowfiend CD, 6% shadow hit (meaning no more gearing hit for Fear if you don't mind rare dispel/non-cd misses since they resist anyhow), shorter Psychic Scream CD (extremely awesome), a ranged snare as a healer (coordinate some awesome kiting with friends and play around with melee), and an optional shadow weaving or vampiric embrace for more dispel fodder or leeching just that little extra health off of opponents with Devouring Plague/SW:P adding up. Oh, and did I mention a 20% ranged Mortal Strike of your own, as a
healer
?
This is, of course, versus a more traditional and passive Disc/Holy where it will be possible to gain both Penance and SoR, which is nothing to scoff at, especially against teams whose strategies used to rely on zerging the healer (you could possibly run 4dps solo heal teams once again).
Still, Disc/Shadow has some serious potential for control with a healer having silence, mind flay, and a pretty short Fear CD (23 second with talents + gloves).

You forget one important thing -- Blizz is completely rearranging all the talent trees.
Was worth a thought, though. ;)
