hmmm, if that's what you think i can only imagine that you haven't had much experience of other mmos.
blizz are really very good in comparison to every other major (or minor for that matter) mmo developer.
personally, i don't pvp so i get a bit annoyed when the game i enjoy gets overly tinkered with to balance a side of the game i don't care about. but, meh, let's not get too upset over a small change that most agree was required.

agreed on FFXI ^_^ i played that a LOT... the fact that, if you stop paying to play they delete your characters... enough said.
i agree with the pve/pvp thing but what's the alternative? every tooltip has two descriptions? or the tooltip changes when you attack a player? if that's the route to go down then it becomes two games and i don't think either would stand without the other... or at least cumulatively the two games wouldn't get the same subscriber base as the current wow.
ah, yes, we have strayed off topic. sorry about that. but, yes i entirely agree on principle but don't see how they could fix one thing without breaking another and it seems that they play at this balancing act with every decision. whatever they do, make changes, keep things, nerf, buff, there will always be disgruntled voices.
btw, i change my sig pretty much weekly ^_^

i suppose what i'm getting at is, you think the drain soul tooltip is long now, what if every tooltip had two headings with different descriptions for pve/p? it would become unmanageable and confusing very quickly.
maybe it's not completely unworkable but i think at the very least you would have to have separate coefficients for every spell depending on pve/p and this would feel like a massive stealth nerf since blizz doesn't release coefficients, they only get discovered. such a huge overhaul would take a long time to rebalance and would make for some very unhappy pvpers.
at this point you have 2 games with a common interface where the ties between do more to hold both back than free them up. while completely separating the 2 games would be the best thing from my pve point of view i recognise that it's never going to happen and would probably be to the detriment of the game as a whole.

i'm playing devil's advocate really. i would love for the pve game to be unfettered by silly pvp balancing but i can totally see why blizz won't take the drastic steps we'd like.
wow has an awful lot of subscribers, it's an anomaly as far as mmos go. the reason for their huge subscriber base could be endlessly argued but the fact is that the current game appeals to a lot of people and i'm sure blizz would attribute a portion of it's popularity to the game's blend of pve and pvp gameplay.
it's an uneasy blend to people as aware as we are but not to the majority of more casual players who would be very easily thrown off by spells and abilities which behaved differently in different situations.
as ever it's all about money and rocking the boat as much as we would like would almost certainly lose blizz more money than it would gain.
(btw, i just reread a comment of mine earlier in this thread and noticed it sounded very condescending. i very often fully intend to be condescending on these fora but that was not my intention with that comment.)

i've really got to stay away from commenting on pvp because i don't like it enough to have played it enough to know enough ^^
but
, conflag is instant, that's the problem. it's an instant spell without an instant's coefficient, it actually has the massive coefficient of a dot.
-simplicity, yes, but diversity, definitely.
-you die quick because of the resilience reset.
