Blacksmithing for the items that blacksmithing makes is meh. You're getting it for the extra 2 sockets you get. It's very flexible, because if you look at the other prof-specific buffs, you don't have a choice on what you get. Example. Leatherworking. Your bracers enchants are stamina, ap, or spellpower. What if you really needed hit, or needed expertise? Sockets will get you that.
Jewelcrafting is no easier to level, though frankly, if I could just have 1 between JC and BS, I'd take JC. Either way, you're going to hit walls during Mithril and Thorium that you have to just farm through.

I currently lvled to 80 and got my mining to 450. My blacksmithing is at 245 and I'm having a hard time with mithril since a stack of mithril bars are at 50g on my realm. I can go farm mithril to raise my blacksmithing
but have heard that blacksmithing is not good
. I'm trying to decide if to keep blacksmithing or to change blacksmithing for jewelcrafting to have jewel/mining or instead to get herbalism to have herb/mining and get money farming. Any suggestions?
I have heard that if I put a pointy stick into my nose, I will bleed money!
BS or JC will give you about the same stat bonus (+or- 2-3) and JC will cost you alot more.

If your second profession is mining, go around and mine the crap out of sholozar basin. Sell the titanium and motes you find and prospect the saronite. I had this guy in my guild who made 20k plus gold using jewelcrafting. Combine that with dailies and you will have plenty of gold.

BS is not a good money maker. If that is your goal, go for JC. I have maxed BS just for the sockets and I made most of my prot gear for my pally once I hit lvl 80. I sell a few pieces here and there, but mostly for guildies. I don't charge for those pieces.

Having recently leveled JC on an alt, I can tell you two things. One, it took about 2000 gold to power level it, using some of my own mats but buying stuff off the AH as well. Secondly, JC makes a lot of money. After a few weeks of doing the dailies and picking up popular epic cuts, you can really turn a profit (server econ pending of course).
On the flip side with Blacksmithing. I don't see it as being much cheaper than JC actually. I remember (back in BC days) leveling Blacksmithing and the Thorium stretch was VERY tedious. I'd say it required more mats to get blacksmithing up through that stretch than it did JC. That, and the fact that you really don't get any good monetary returns from Blacksmithing. Yeah, I've gotten some 100g tips from having all of the Ulduar and ToC recipes, but that's not really dependable (or available to the everyman).

@Porcell, it is not because you dont know how to make money with a profession that mean it doesnt make good money. Also, JC cost more to level up than BS.
And for your first paragraph... totally useless. "It cost me X, but I used some of the stuff I already had". It is like saying: "I built up an house for only 100$... but I took all the material from my previous house."

If you think mithril is expensive, just you wait until you hit thorium.
Check your local ah prices for a stack of thorium bars before you decide if it's worth it for you. I'm also a miner, so I'm mining it, just so that I get that extra "I worked for it" feeling. I'm currently sitting at about 280 and I am really looking forward to putting my thorium days behind me.

If you want to be manly, you level blacksmithing.

Yeah! The only problem is that the bonus of BS are two sockets.
How much of a manly man do you feel like when you've made those two sockets and stand there wondering if you should match the colors of your jewellery or just go for the shiny jewels you really desire?

Easiest place I know to farm Mithril is in Thousand Needles. With the swim-speed bonus and esp. the walking speed bonus on the ground underwater, and ZERO hostiles, you can do circuits extremely fast.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Gnub##DELIM##Please don't necro posts this old, it does nothing good at all. I'm sure the original poster has figured out the answer to his question by now.

Burning Steppes is one of the best places to farm Mithril! After making just 1 1/3 lap going around it in a circle, i got over 3 stacks of ores, plus plenty of solid stones for BS.
