Balance is one of, if not the, worst specs in Arena.

You got off a Starfire in PvP? Wow congrats, as that is a very rare situation. Boomkins are, as stated by Questionc, one of the worst specs in Arena. In BG's, they are still horrible.

blah blah... Arena.
Seeing as how he's still
lvl 43
and a very long way from arenas, unless there are twinks in the BG, he's not really gonna find a whole lot of
serious
pvpers. so getting off a starfire after rooting is very likely.
to the OP, the warrior was probably new to the game, and wasnt paying attention to you, just went "wtf?" when the roots constricted him, and when your starfire nuked him. :)
now, boomkins arent terrible for pvp, even at 80 i've seen quite a few boomkins hit 2k+. i personally loved my boomkin twink, gonna be taking him up to the 60-69 bracket soon and some of my friends are already waiting in the bracket. :)
the game is "balanced" and centralized around lvl 80 gameplay. with the exception of lvl 19 twinks, blizzard really doesnt pay much attention to lower lvl BGs.

boomkin are far from OP but if left to freecast a boomkin will melt your face off very quickly with the power of the stars, nature, and MOOOOONFIIIIAAAAAAA!

If you got off a starfire- everyone must have been ignoring you. I don't PvP with my boomkin a lot but the times I do I either do really well or die constantly. It's important to know your role- you are not a front line grunt but rather artillary meant to stay back and drop bombs. Most of the time you'll be dead before you get halfway through a startfire... but yes, if you can get one off it'll hurt whomever you hit.

haha they may suck in arenas 99% of the time but not with 5 boomkin on one team, they make up for their flaws with overwhelming class strength, can keep an entire opposing team rooted or even cycloned at once while your team all heals each other, pop 15 treants on a healer, typhoon spam someone around the arena or just barkskin up and nuke down one target after another while 2/5 of your team keeps tranq up
hell just pop starfall all at once and watch as the whole arena is tossed into a meteor shower
generally boomkin suck but their best team comp is easily 5x boomkin

You sure about that?

Boomkins from 40 to around lvl 60 will destroy people after 60 it becomes alot tougher because more classes get smart cc. Boomkins just get their most powerful spells sooner. However the fact that you got a starfire off is surprising. I hated moonfire spammers while going through the bg's from 40-60. after 60 I saw more wrath, starfire. However Starfire pre 60 is a huge hit, and can wipe out just about anyone if they don't see you.
Pretty soon, everyone will recognize the big giant thing and start to CC you out of the way or drop you immediately. Heck, now adays if I cc a Boomkin guarding a node even if he is with people. I drop him first, than jump the next person. Otherwise they do too much damage if left alone.

Right now, my dps exceeds that of a high leveled rouge in my bracket.
Umm... dps =\= burst damage. dps is a measurement of your average damage per second over a set period of time, only applies to raiding / 5-mans.
other than that, gg with ur Lazer Turkey. :)

me feral 72,
boomkin
73
you sir, faced a noobkin.
if he's a druid, he knows that rooting you wont do any good.
personally, i prefer a typhoon > hibernate > starfire > cyclone > starfire combo. two of those starfires would bring you down to at least half health. then i'd pop trees, shadowmeld, and watch you ? as my trees pound on you.
by you, i dont mean darkpaw, i mean any feral druid. this is assuming equally geared lvl 70+ combat.

Feral should beat boomkin 1v1 most of the time. What feral druid lets you see them come at you and cast at range. Pretty much every ranged class except Boomkin has a oh$%^& gtfo out of here pbaoe (non directional) method to create space (ie, fearbombs, nova/blink, disengage, thunderstorm) whereas boomkin only has typhoon . Any good feral is gonna stealth up, pounce you, and hump your leg as you try to cast. 1 typhoon isn't enough time, roots are useless, and feral charges making closing that 1 typhoon gap pretty simple. Infected wounds + humping you in the back = dead boomkin. Ranged classes that can't keep melee classes at bay typically lose, and druids in general being the hard counter to entangling roots make feral a hard counter to boomkin

What really concerns me is that you weren't following the PvP rotation of:
Wrath, Wrath, Wrath, Wrath.
Or the MF spam for the KO

Feral does indeed beat moonkin. No real skill is needed on the part of the feral either, it's just a spec thing. Feral + Healer also beats Moonkin + Healer, not because of damage output or survivability, simply because moonkins use mana and ferals use energy. Eventually the feral will win.
As a side note to some of the comments here, it helps a lot to have a PvP spec when PvPing as balance. Specifically Brambles allowing you to kite with Force of Nature. Even ferals can't get out of that if their charge is on cooldown.
And Starfire has a lot of uses in PvP. The main one being using it as kick bait. When someone uses their "kick"* cooldown to lock out your arcane school, they just messed up big time. You can then instantly switch to Cyclone/Wrath/Roots/Heals. You'd be amazed how often people will just kick the first cast they can. If they are skilled enough to not kick your starfire, it's hardly a disadvantage.
The second use of Starfire ofc is the PvP set bonus.
* - "kick" as in Shaman Shocks, DKs Brain Freeze, Warrior Pummel/Shield Slam, and generally any non-silence interrupt.
