Elemental PVP viable?

Hey!
I'm about to hit 80 and I was wondering if pvp'ing as Elemental was viable. Don't you get killed too fast? And is the (burst) damage enough to kill the opposite faction?
Also, anything I should know pvp'ing as Elemental? Tips and tricks, that kind of stuff?

Should I go resto first to grind honor and then buy Elemental pvp gear? Or go Elemental pvp right away?
And should I buy the
Stormhide Battlegear
for pvp'ing? Is it a good start?

While Resto PvP is still the best way to go, Elemental PvP is viable. Before 3.1 we were helpless against some classes but now we have faster shocks. an AoE root, and a PW:shield effect that can't be dispelled (not limited to elemental). Elemental Shamans have a high burst similar to destro warlocks.

The Stoneclaw glyph which pretty much gives you 4000~ absorb on a 30 sec cd.
