Need help with macroing

hey guys, just a real simple question here.

Im planning on making a rogue class and i heard macroing is pretty darn important for us (especially in pvp, which is wat i plan to do). Ive seen some forums but they only have the macro itself (as in what to write). Can somebody please refer me or tell the actual steps in doing so? I dont even know if its supposed to be done in game or in a game folder. Or if its in game what do i press to open up a macro toolbar where I can write up my macro commands.
