Yep. With 3.1, lightning reflexes talent also grants 10% melee haste. That put Fist/Dagger and Sword/sword combat into contention with Mutilate in raid dps.
Use a slow Main hand, and a fast Off hand,
this build
or
this build
(replace CQC with Sword spec for swords), and you're set.
Edit: Also, wound poison main hand, deadly off hand.

Calamity's grasp is pretty sweet. Fast weapons are always better for your OH for combat, because of the combat potency procs.
I'm actually not sure though if SR or omen or ruin would be better for you. I would suggest
spreadsheeting
it (But I would assume that SR would be a little better). (webbed death, or with ulduar Combatant's Bootblade, Kingsbane and even Golem Shard Sticker would be great).
If your swords are good (156 dps or more each, and 2.6 MH, 1.5 OH speed) I would consider going with them until you get one of the aforementioned daggers, but It's really up to you.
(I would spreadsheet the swords before doing them, also.)

According to my spreadsheet (for my gear, mind you), Omen edges out SR slightly for the offhand. This also syncs, surprisingly enough, with their relative offhand ranks on Shadowpanther.net (although the MAEP system isn't perfect).

Fist/Dagger has been back since wrath.
Like pretty much every combat build ever, the speed of the off-hand is pretty important. Avoid going slowing than 1.6 on the off-hand if at all possible. There a LOT of 1.5 weapons and 1.4's are around also.
If you fail at getting a fast dagger simply buy a librarians papercutter from your local auction house. Until Naxx 25 there's nothing to touch it even then only webbed death really starts to outshine it.
As said tho, if you have any other decent weapon pairing look at those too, fist/dagger is only top dog at the moment due to available weapons and some synergies with talents. Swords and Maces backed up with the right build will give similar results.

alright, and to add to this.. why is daggers so unusable for combat spec? i mean using CQC instead of Sword spec.. is it really that terrible of an idea to do at end game?

many question i'll try to give an answer for all...
- combat dagger: combo buolder is basckstab, positional reqiurements and lots of energy for only one combo point, no way it will be viable without a complete rework. forget combat daggers.
- combat swords: the change to windfury totem was the bigger nerf this spec recieved, since the extra attacks were really HUGE dps and woked well with the talent.(from 200 in kara to 350-400 in BT gear) now it remains a viable spec, but until ulduar we have a really poor sword itemization, sticking many times to 1.6 sword, which are not optimal. im going to try this anyway sincei dropped a pair of swords in ulduar.
combat cqc: the biggest buff to combat is really this talent. 5% straight crit is enormous, and is perfect for the glyph of sinister strike. also, fist weapons for main hand are all at 2.7 - 2.8 speed, and it's full of daggers with 1.5-1.4 speed. this combiantion makes cqc the best combat spec atm, anyway only for a little margin.
EDIT: fist/fist is really the same as fist/dagger, get a fast offhand. in naxx there is nothing worth anyway, u need to wait till ulduar.

I figured main combo builder would be SS.. less energy, and with glyph of SS, gives you 2 CP instead of 1 half the time (seems more to me, but glyph says 50%). is it just not damaging enough with a MH dagger to be viable?

Correct. If you're using SS as a combo builder, the 1.8 speed daggers (pretty much the slowest you can find) are not nearly as hard hitting as the fists you can use instead (2.6).

that's a shame.. combat daggers could have a lot of potential with a the quick swing speed and the built in haste of the combat build (lightning reflexes, blade flurry, etc). i'm pretty sure with snd, and blade flurry up, my swing speed was like 1.01 (with 1.6 daggers.. i'm using dual
balanced heartseekers
) . and with wound poison.. hell i'm only a lvl 54 and it seems like it procs on every bleeping hit that lands, and the energy regen rate is unreal. 40 energy seems like it takes no time at all to regenerate (whereas with the muti build, 55 energy seemed like it took a lifetime)
edit: whoops.. they're 1.7 speed, not 1.6.

One little side note about combat daggers...keep in mind that the combo point builder is backstab, thus making the Kologorn encounter in Ulduar impossible, unless you use SS (see above replies about using SS).

I find it a shame that you can't leave things be.
