I prefer Chimera. 30 y range special that does ok damage and slows is great both with chasing someone or kiting.

Try with a Hyena, if you spec them with
Dash
,
Charge
and
Boar's Speed
they will catch runners in no time and slow them with
Tendon Rip
giving you enough time to get in range to throw off a
Concussive Shot
.
Just my opinion remember though :)

Apparently for 5v5 Chimaera is a good choice. You can keep an enemy almost permanently slowed with
Froststorm Breath
(&
Longevity
)/Concussive Shot/Intimidation...
I forgot to mention. With Longevity, Dive and 1 point in Mobility - the Dive duration is 16s, while its cooldown is a bit under those. Which produces a perma Diving Chimera with slowing attack.
Worth it to go a ferocity pet instead of a cunning pet just for heart of the pheonix?
If you are BM you are most likely speced/glyphed for Imp Revive, this along with your haste gear makes you Revive cast really fast and be uninterruptable. Really no point for Phoenix here.

You wont catch mounted people this way. With Chiemera you will. Why getting a worse non-exotic pet if you can get the superior exotic one?

Non exotic? Ravager.
Basically anything that fits your tastse and fears your oppoenents.
I know people who have terrible sporebat fears.
