couple of things here:
-firstly drain tanking only really takes off after level 30 or so. it's only at that point that drain life gets strong enough to do any real healing and you have the talents to back it up.
-the whole idea of drain tanking is that you take the damage but you heal yourself through it while also doing damage. the VW is a tank pet with very low damage so if it's not tanking then it's not very useful while your succubus does much higher damage.
-the VW's sacrifice is very new (2nd day that it's been in the game) so people like me who levelled their locks 5 years ago don't really know how much of an effect it will have ^^
if you're finding it very useful then it could well be that a new levelling playstyle could emerge based around this bubble.
-while drain tanking
was
the clear winner i see most new warlocks these days levelling with a VW and having it tank for them - basically how you're doing it right now. the VW has been buffed quite a bit since the days when drain tanking was very popular so if you find questing with a VW comfortable then i suggest you stick with it.

At level 20 I would suggest something like this:
Put your Void on passive and bind a key for it's attack. I use the key between my tab and esc key, it's a ~ on some keyboards and it's ½ on mine. Anyway, the key next to the 1-key or whatever you find convenient. That way you can easily change targets and control which mob your void goes after.
Send your void after the first mob. Dot the mob with agony, corruption and while you're casting immolate you switch target to the next mob, hit the void attack key and send the void after mob2. The first mob will follow the void. Dot mob2 with agony, corruption and while you're casting immolate you change target to mob3 and send your void after that and repeat the dotting. You should be able to do a chain of 5-6 mobs before your void needs a break for repairs, but start with a couple and work your way up to a number you feel comfortable with.
Eventually the first mobs in the chain will lose interest in the void and come for you, but by that time they should be very close to dying, so just let them come, the last ticks of your dots should finish them off. If not, you use drain life on what they have left. Press V to get health bars over the heads of mobs, that makes it easier to track how close they are to dying and if you should be worried or not.
Later in the game, especially if you go affliction and get siphon life, you should be able to skip the void and just dot 3-4 mobs, let them get close and hit you while you drain life on the last mob. All it takes is plenty of spellpower. The hard part becomes finding enough mobs in range, it's really annoying when the first ones starts evading because number 7 is just a bit too far away.
