I like healbot + decursive + Xperl.
I get a lot of redundant knowledge.
don't forget your boss mod... and something like Event Alert.
As well, I recommend you search the forums for similar topics. I believe we've discussed this ad nauseum several times. Might be worth your time. :-)

Besides the basic raid/grouping addons, for my UI I use:
Xpearl (elegantly customized)
Bartender4 (ditto)
LOTS of macros (particularly mouseover macros)
That's really all that makes my UI as far as grouping goes.
I have Xpearl set up to best show me health bars without clogging up the screen too much.
Bartender4 let's me set up my action bars that better represent by keybinds, as well as resive them to not take up so much space. I have everything on a keybind save items/spell can can only be cast out of combat.
Mouseover macros can save you the hassle of getting another addon to do that same task.
Combining these I have lightning fast reaction time when healing tricky situations, like Kel'thuzad's ice blocks.
Good unit frames + keybinds + mouseover + skill + practice = epic healing

I use:
1) a raid frame: Healbot (on my priest) Grid (on my drood)
2) a raid boss mod: Deadly Boss Mods
3) a proc watcher: Event Alert
4) a cast bar replacement: Quartz
because it:
1) improves my ability to rapidly gather and respond to information
2) gives me a heads up to what the boss is likely to do next
3) makes sure I don't waste things like surge of light
4) mostly aesthetic, but it has good add'l info.

I can't speak to spriesting, but I do recommend Grid + mouseover macros for healing and grinding.
I use variations on this macro, so I can use the same macros for grilnding and for healing. If your target or mouseover is an enemy, you mindblast. If it's an ally, you flash heal. If you press shift, you binding heal.
#showtooltip
/cast Binding Heal; Mind Blast; Flash Heal; Flash Heal; Mind Blast
I'm pretty sure that the syntac is all right, but I'll check it when I get home.
I have grown to love this type of macro and so have almost all of my spells bound on 1-6. Anyway, something to try if you like messing around with macros.

Whatever your mouse tip is over, when you hit the macro-button, it will cast the spell.
Mostly they are used with an interface like Grid or Healbot where you can hover your mouse tip over icons of raid members and quickly hit the button to use the macro.
Response time is way, way fast with them.
To a lesser extent, you can also use them in the field of play and mouseover toons running around. You can also use them on frames such as a Bosses, and their target (assuming you have target of target activated in your interface).
Hope that helps.

You put your mouse over a frame, player, npc, w/e and hit the macro and the spell fires on that target if it's allowable.
eg.
/cast Flash Heal
You can put your mouse cursor over friendly pcs, friendly npcs, player raid frames, player party frames, your frame or yourself and the macro will cast flash heal on the target that you have your cursor over.

new world for me.
another question about mouseover macros......can there be multiple spells set up for mouseover on a single target? i.e. one for penence and one for flash heal?
The only way I know of is with a modifier, meaning you have to push Shift or Control in addition to the button that the macro is bound to. You can look at my macro up above to see how I did it for Flash heal and Binding heal together on the same button.

Do you mean like:
/castseqeuence Power Word: Shield, Prayer of Mending, Penance, Flash Heal, Flash Heal, Flash Heal
also does healbot work well in notifing you who needs to be cured or rebuffed or is there another better addon for that?
The setup I posted will make it very obvious, just don't forget to add custom debuffs like Slag Pot, Stone Grip, Gravity Bomb, Light Bomb, Unquenchable Flames, Guardian Swarm Focus, Saronite Vapors and other things that don't come immediately to mind.
