I am not sure I follow your question entirely, but I will do my best to answer.
You say you are super new to hunters. Does this mean you are a super new 20? Or did you just hit 80?
For leveling, you generally don't want aimed shot, because it is in the MM tree, and the best leveling spec is BM--and you will get the best results speccing as far into BM as fast as you can.
If you are level 70-79, you can level in any spec really, though BM will still be the most efficient, but you can certainly play with specs that will give you aimed shot.
At 80, aimed shot is an essential part of MM heroics/raiding, an important part of the SV rotation, but not that viable for BM.
Hopefully this helps.
PS, I believe aimed shot is essential for PvP--I am not 100% cause I dont PvP much, but I do think I have read that.

I'm SV and I do weave in Aimed Shot, so I, as Euripedes sais, decrease the need of steady shot fillers. On big pulls with severel mobs I find Multi Shot to be better of course.
i've been wondering about this. with the extra gcd of BA i thought it was best to take aimed shot out of my spec never thought about just getting rid of a ss gcd. /sigh

Aimed shot is imo worse in BM shot rotation than Steady (although in most rotations its before Steady).
Pros:
-Does more direct damage than Steady
-costs less mana than Multi (more than Steady though)
-is an instant therefore can be cast while moving (jump-turn around or strafe-kiting, while Multi and Steady obviously arent)
-is 1 target only therefore doesnt break cc (CC isnt an issue in wotlk so its really a minor pros).
-50% healing debuff is worth anything only in pvp
Cons:
-costs 1 talent point and shares cd with trainer learned Multi
-doesnt proc Cobra Strikes on crit (while steady does), therefore doesnt add any indirect damage
-hits only 1 target while multi hits up to 3.
-it procs GCD just as any shot is and with BM Serpent Swiftness Multi and Steady are pretty fast cast anyway so the difference between instant and not instant becomes trivial in terms of dps if we arent moving.
