If everyone who drank alcohol smoked marijuana, the country would be much better off. That's really all that needs to be said about the legalization of marijuana.
Cocaine, not so much.

I just was a bit bored with the forums, checked in from time to time but didn't really see any interesting threads for a couple days so I kind of just left. No big deal.

Sorry for my delay in the thread. I had to call my grandma.
So, cocaine.... yes it should be legal. The crimes commited by the people who are under the influence of cocaine should be illegal.... same with people who hate gays.. or blacks... or people who want to smoke... or people who believe cinderella rules the world... none of these things should be illegal. If a person commits a violent act, THEN they break the law. If a person wants to snort cocaine until thier brain bleeds, why should I care? Why should I pay millions in tax dollars so that the money can get wasted away for a lost cause? Why should I fund expensive programs to stop something that can't be stopped?
Make cocaine legal.
Tax the hell out of it.
Hopefully the crackheads die faster.
Watch the gangs go out of business.

I don't think "encouraging crackheads to kill themselves" is a good motivation to be passing laws. Come to think of it, I don't think encouraging ANYONE to kill themselves is a good motivation to be passing laws.
Edit
: Also, don't apologize for an hour long delay between posts. This is a forum, not a chatroom. :P

I propose instead we spend lots and lots of money on rehabilitation programs designed to help the innocent people who snort cocaine every day. These people, are people... that means something. Right now... I'm going to go out and give my child's college savings to one of these needy people. I'll encourage them to seek help for thier problem. When they then rob my house for more money, THEN I'll ask why.
While we are saving idiots we should attach tiny cushions to the front of bullets to help prevent suicides... or at least make the people die slower.

Keep it civil. There's no need to make an emotional appeal in a logical argument, and making fun of me doesn't help your case. I'm fully aware of your "the moderators are people just like us" philosophy, but if you flamed another user like that I'd be equally tempted to lock the thread. I'd like to be able to participate in these discussions, but I can't if people start throwing flames at me—because then when I lock threads people will say, "He's just locking the thread because I'm RIGHT and he doesn't want to ADMIT it." That's not going to work out for anybody.
Now that aside, it seems like your argument is inconsistent. You seem to be arguing that it's a bad idea for cocaine usage to be a crime, because people can do whatever they want to themselves and it's only worthy of prosecution when they do something bad to someone else. But you're justifying the decision with the
acknowledgement
that a cocaine user is more likely than someone else to rob your house, and the blanket statement that cocaine users are deserving of death.
If that's your argument, why not make cocaine use a crime punishable by death? Morally, it seems, you're on the same ground.

I'm not sure how much that would stop people from doing cocaine. Not everyone gets caught, and the price of it would go up due to higher risk (i.e. more gang profit).

I'm not saying that I think that would solve the problem. I only mean that from a moral perspective, legalizing cocaine (in the hopes that drug users will overdose and die) seems roughly equivalent to making cocaine use punishable by immediate death.
I don't
think
anyone would agree that making cocaine use punishable by immediate death would be a good thing, and primarily on moral grounds. But if you
are
to make the argument that a death sentence for cocaine use would be morally wrong, I propose that MyTie's justification for cocaine legalization is equally wrong.

Drug users who would overdose and die off of illegal substances will do the same off of legal substances. The difference is that instead of milking the money through the hands of dangerous organized crime, they are instead going through tax dollars.
Now listen, it may be harsh to say "oh, I want crackheads to die", that obviously isn't the point of my arguement, or the thread. Honeing in on the point that they should die faster isn't really fair to the rest of my arguement.
How about this. If people wish to die by cocaine use, they should be able to do it without harming the rest of the country through empowering the more dangerous criminals.
Do I want crackheads to die? Of course not. Should they be empowered to choose thier own lifestyle? As long as no violent crimes are involved, have at it.
Edit: Sorry about the demeanor of my earlier post. No flames were intended.
