Item Question

So I am the happy owner of a
Wall of the Dead
at the moment, but like all equipment, it will need replacing at some point, and that point is getting close. I have found a worthy replacement in this
Petrified Lichen Guard
, but I have a question about shields and item enhancement.
You see, I am a Protection warrior and I would really like to outfit this shield with a shield spike to make the item even more damaging. My question, however, is if I can still stack a shield enchant on top of it without losing the shield spike when I do so. I'm not quite sure whether or not those would cancel each other out, but I would like to make sure that they don't before buying the mats to get them made.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I do not know with 100% certainty, but I believe the shield spike works in the same way as leg armor. Neither are generally thought of an an enchantment, but they will be replaced if the item is enchanted.

Shield spike is an enchant just as well as, say,
+18 Stamina
. It's just created by a different profession. So yes, you can only have one.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me! I have just one more question. Would you say that, for a Prot warrior, it's a good idea to put something like a
Felsteel Shield Spike
on
Petrified Lichen Guard
? Or would you say that an enchant like
Enchant Shield - Defense
is a better choice?
In short, what do you think would be the best enchant possible on this shield, for my build? I really want to get the most mileage out of this one, so I will spare no expense on it.

If you're mostly questing and grinding I would probably go with a shield spike. If you're mostly running instances, the defense enchant might be a better option. Another option is the +block value enhancement created by blacksmiths
Titanium Plating
, which should serve you well for both soloing and running dungeons. Also, the shield is not unique, so you could get more than one if you would want different enchants for different situations. Although the shield you linked is great for leveling, personally I wouldn't want to spend too much that is going to be replaced in the not too distant future in Northrend.
edit: I noticed that the
Titanium Plating
won't be availible until lvl 70, so that won't be an option for a while. But it might be interesting later on.

Well, I opted for
Enchant Shield - Defense
at this time, and I will keep looking for someone who can make me a
Felsteel
or
Titanium Shield Spike
. I did buy the
Titanium Plating
, but that will probably go on a Northrend shield once I get there. I'm sure I'll find a worthy replacement for this fantastic shield by that time.
