You are correct in your post pretty much, raiders do tend to be far more uptight and serious than you're average casual player. but there is good reason for this...
Say you are in a 25 man raid and in the MT accidentally turns his back, takes spike damage and dies... that's probably going to result in a wipe if you're OT's arent fast enough to pick up the boss. Whilst a wipe isn't the end of the world, causing 24 other poeple unneccessary repair bills and the time aspect of corpse running is going to get you disliked fast.
People also don't like to 'carry' people in raids, if you are joining a raid, then people expect you to do your part. under 2.5K dps for example means your probably being lazy.
Occasionally people will be up-tight and kick you for non-fatal errors, but if you are casuing wipes or simply not pulling your weight then you can expect the boot. Imo that is fair enough, why should people be expected to put time in to carry you through raids. Casual play is fine, if you can find some other raiders who don't wiping and high repair bills, but in all honesty, a little bit of effort, and it isn't much effort at all, will go along way with raiders, learn the fights, and don't be the cause of wipes and everything'll be fine.

If there's a member in a football team who has terrible aim, fumbles the ball, or isn't paying attention and lets the other team score, he is going to get yelled at. Not only by the rest of the team, but also by the coach and the team's fans. He let the rest of the team down. Sure, the team might have actually won that match, but it was because everyone else had to put in extra effort to compensate for the bad player's mistakes. There was a very real risk that the team would lose and go down in the rankings. Eventually, the bad player will get sent off the team if he doesn't improve and put in as much effort to his game as everyone else is. And football is a game.
The same goes with raiding. If you aren't pulling your weight, then other people have to compensate, and there's the very real risk of being kicked out of the raid if you continue to perform badly. People will yell at you because they were closer to wiping on that boss because of you, regardless of whether or not they did wipe.
If everyone in the raid put as much effort in as that person who was facing away from the boss or who dropped a fart cloud in the middle of the healers, I'm pretty sure you would not make it past a single boss.
WoW raiding isn't a game like poker or Super Mario Bros where if you screw up, the only loser is yourself. It's a game like football or Team Fortress, where if you screw up, everyone suffers for it.

Pugging=Raid leader and responsible set the rules. If you do not match up you may get kicked, often you get warned.
guilds=Rules about raiding and you usually answer first to your class leader and in raid the raid leader guides you. If you perform badly the Class leader will have a chat with you. If you do not listen and still perform badly you will get the boot.
Pugs are usually alot more unforgiving bcs it is usually one guy who got sole responsiblity. If one person foks up one time the group gets annoyed and will yell some. If it continues to happen the Raid leader will make a decision because no one else will. So he kicks one to save the experience for 24 others including himself.
I cannot say i am not too fond with some aspect then people get @#$%^y bcs you make one error. But you have to expect to take the consequences on your in-game behaviour. MMO is not the same as a Arcade or single player game, where you only lose towards yourself then you try to beat the computer.
If you do get kicked from a group I strongly suggest you do some searching if you did wrong(wiping the raid bcs you did not do your job or general slacking and afk counts as your fault, if you are unsure ask the RL), How i will improve myself next time and try again. Also saying you are sorry may help if you was a ^&*!@#bag towards others in raid bcs people kicked in raid chat or yell.
Also there is good stickies on how to pug effectivly i suggest you read them and learn.
This is a game but as pointed out other people play also with you in raiding. And this has nothing to do with raider versus casual. I can tell you i met many casuals who gets #$%^ed and angry then people fok up many times for the grp.
hope this helps for others who gets kicked from pugs often. Sorry for the wall of text.

People who do under 2.5 should really, REALLY not be in any raids, much less a heroic. They hinder the progression of a raid.

And so the elitists come...
*cracks knuckles*Hello dear Casual.
Why so not serious?
Because it's a game
Why would you play a game and suck at it?
Not being the best =/= sucking
Why would you not do as your supposed to?
Doing as you are supposed to? Perhaps you could enlighten us as to what Blizzard has set as the aim of the game, after all, only they can define what you are supposed to do in their game.
Why would making time for something YOU think is a nolifer act make a diffrence?
Why not? I dont play to a hardcore standard, none of my guild does. We must be scrubs.
Oh wait, we were the first non- Sarth +3D guild to kill Ignis on our server.
Why would you play a game if you do not optimize the time played?
For the enjoyment of playing.
Why do you live if you dont optimise the time lived?
Your actually the one with nolife wasting your time playing a game to much than you should.
This is ironic.
We are &*!@ing enjoying it by doing things you nablets won't do in a eternity. We get the thrill out of you people that suck on the game but still play it and in anyway show that the fancy title I got is a benchmark you'll never reach. Call it what you wanna call it, it's a mmorpg, and being a number out of the many is nothing I like.Ah, I see.
Sociopathy rolled up in something you cant achieve in life so you do it in WoW.
Being "important".
Im not surprised really.

Oh, and as for Vent, who gives a damn. You dont need it, you just need to know whats going on around you. My DPS usually takes a minor hit compared to what it could be, but Im also the guy who doesnt need to scream into vent about being killed by adds, or having boxed himself in on AoEs.

There is at the end of the day, a big difference between a hardcore guild, a casual/social guild, and a PUG and i'm not 100% clear on which it is you're experiencing. If you're in a hardcore guild I'd suggest stepping down to a casual, if you're in a casual that's kicking people out of a raid because they make one mistake, I'd find a better one! And PUGs just vary so massively, if you're doing raids in pugs I'd recommend stepping into a guild with more security and flexibility.
I would never kick a guildie because they messed up on cleansing for example. I would take them aside and explain to them what went wrong and how they could improve - but I would expect them to listen, and to improve. If people make the same mistakes over and over and don't learn then they'd not only be kicked from the raid but probably the guild too. Everyone can make a mistake. Everyone has to start somewhere, none of the elitists started out like that (although they forget that quickly), but being able to adjust, improve & learn is absolutely essential to enjoying raiding endgame content.
If you don't like serious endgame content - there are many options, you can enjoy achievement runs, hcs, collecting things, doing quests/dailies, even easy raids like OS10/25.
But most of the raids are serious endgame content. People have spent god knows how many hours of their life on improving a character to enable it to complete a raid, they have only so much time to work with, and that raid can only be attempted once a week. Groups fall apart quickly if people screw up a lot and that's it - another week lost before someone can have a chance at completion or improvement in that raid. So it's not asking a lot to take it seriously and respect that your actions can affect the other 9 or 24 players really.
As for vent, listening capabilities do make things go a lot smoother - but it is always the raid leader who should make it clear before anyone gets saved that they need to have vent available for listening. It takes 2 mins to say anyone here can't hear vent? Sorry, going to have to replace. Job done. I understand and accept why it is necessary in some raids, but getting someone saved before you decide they need vent is simply not necessary.

And yet, somehow, they still go on and on about how easy it is.
Inconsistent dont'cha think?
