There was a time in TBC and maybe even before that that a PWS during a pull could lead to less rage at the start of the fight and giving room for
impatience dps to overaggro. It's minor but it left a bad mark on shielding the tank.
WotLK changed so much of this. Like parrying/blocking trough a shield and way better
anger rage management for tanks (based on parrying/blocking). Most serious tanks didn't lose anything (in terms of threat) when shielded and only poor tanks blamed priest shielding them.
There was a small difference with and without shielding in a overall run, but not enough to block the tank from building threat. Now with shielding giving rage no one cares about rage and shields anymore, or shield care.
BTW the change is in the talent
Rapture and works for druids.
When your Power Word: Shield is completely absorbed or dispelled you are instantly energized with 2.5% of your total mana,
and you have a 100% chance to energize your shielded target with 2% total mana, 8 rage, 16 energy or 32 runic power. This effect can only occur once every 12 sec.
