well if you use recount to measure your dps it makes it easier. what you want to do to find your true dps unbuffed of course is just dps the target dummy about 3 times until you run out of mana then average out the 3 tries to get your dps unbuffed of course. you have to find out buffed dps in a raid in which that will most likely be higher.

Never heard of Skada, so I have just downloaded it and played with it a bit. Looks nice, but I'm afraid it's more demanding on resources than Recount (10 separate folders? Recount only takes one for the same result).

If I'm working out my dps unbuffed, I usually set the stopwatch for 3-5 minutes (the duration of a Patchwerk fight) and then blow everything I have on the dummy for that many minutes.
If I then had to quote that dps figure to someone else, I'd say, for example, "I can do 2100dps unbuffed over 5 minutes on the dummy".
Other people measure their unbuffed dps in different ways - an above poster would go till they run out of mana (not an option for my rogue) and most other people prefer to quote their raidbuffed dps while doing the Patchwerk fight in Naxxramas, so it's best to outline the method that you used when you quote your dps.

There IS an option in recount that lets you see the data from the last fight or a certain fight (I usually use this at the end of every fight to see who did the most effective healing, but it can be used for DPS, too). Also, try to base your timing around however long the boss fight will be - an hour of beating on a dummy means you'll use your CDs measured in minutes repeatedly (IE Bloodlust/Heroism), whereas beating on the same dummy for however long it would take before the boss you're practicing for enrages (if it does).
