Do we have a choice?

What about people who are living in absolutely terrible conditions that they were forced into? These people are forced to suffer their entire lives, and that has absolutely nothing to do with their free will.
Do a google image search for agent orange. Look at how a generation of Vietnamese had to suffer when they didn't even exist yet when the agent orange was used. God wanted that to be able to happen?
God wants genocide to be able to happen? The list goes on.
God gave free will so that you could choose to love him.
Let me ask the opposite question to yours: would he be God if you couldn't love him by choice?

I know, poking fun at Christianity is almost too easy.

What, does he have self esteem issues or something?Fail. Answer the question instead of side-stepping.
What about those who don't even know him?
You don't need to know about him to choose to love him, do you?

I love Zorg, even though I have no idea who/what it is. Totally makes sense.

Which is a result of free will, no? To force you to love Zorg would be to remove the benevolence of God, and the fact that God is considered to be a benevolent being is something that we can agree on, no?

Why does God want little loving worshipers all around the world? Maybe you should look at the absurdity of what you're saying to appreciate what Laihendi is saying.
And yes you do need to know about him to choose to love him (this is under the assumption he exists).

OP; You find the truth and answer to your question in the Yes Man - movie.
I will try to watch that sometime, I guess. But I have been thinking about this a lot today, and I have a new idea. I think that all the factors discussed before (genes, upbringing, etc.) just help you reach the choice, without those factors, choice wouldn't exist. And even though we would have made the same choice over and over again, we still have a choice, but it makes sense that we choice the same thing, cause we are, simply, the same! I also think that hesitation is some sort of proof about our free will.
I guess most of what I said was basically the same as the book skyfire gave me me, but whatever, discuss :D.

This is why you make a fail arguer. You turn quickly to ad hominem rather than debating the finer points...
God wants love because he
is
love, isn't he? Which means he grows when you love him, and if he grows, than he can give you more love... back and forth. Symbiotic relationship.
And yes you do need to know about him to choose to love him (this is under the assumption he exists).
Mmm... I think so now also.

So he wants people to love him because he feeds off of it.

When I said symbiosis, I meant symbiosis. Not parasitism.

So he wants to grow... just because? How does loving something make it grow?

Have you
never
been in any sort of relationship in your life?

Then it wasn't a relationship (much less one of love) in the truest sense of the word.
I thought I already won this thread?
