You bring up a good point. you see if the lunatic you met earlier was able to back up his proof, you would have followed him, that is what happened with the prophet, he didn't just "talk the talk", and that is why all these people back then followed him. Don't you ever wander how a man basically a no one, was able to forge one of the most powerful empires of the time? Do you think he somehow fooled all these people? do you think you are smarter then all these people ( some of which we great scientists) ?

People were pretty ignorant back then. You can be a lunatic and still have a lot of power. Many of the Roman emperors were just plain crazy. (lead in their water supply)

Ok, mate. But how? that is the question that no one gave an answer to. He couldn't have made it up, because, like I have been saying, it is too brilliant to have been written by an illiterate person, in fact, the prophet challenged the poets and writers of the time to write something as good, and they couldn't!
Most scholars agree that Shakespeare had little to no education in literature. What I'm trying to say, though is that simply believing a work of art to be great, doesn't automatically place it above the realm of humans. It's totally feasible that whoever wrote it was human (or perhaps even more than one person wrote it).
Yes, it was a great undertaking and even more colossal book, but you'll need better evidence than mere belief in its supposed message to confirm its divinity.
But he must have had some education. And if the prophet was running a great scheme, don't you think one of the thousands who followed him would have figured it out? And like I said earlier, he challenged them to write something as good, they couldn't, they were so amazed they went as far as to claim that he was a sorcerer!
What I truly do not understand is why all of you resist it so much, and don't even try to look into it. even thought it is something that will better us all. I will probably go to sleep soon, I will try to answer as much as I can before I go.

Claiming that people are smarter now then 1500 years ago is a bit ignorant.

Laihendi is not claiming that people are smarter now, but they are less ignorant. When you live your entire life and never go more than 10 miles from your home, and can't read etc you're ignorant.
This is talking about the general population.

Ignorance and education are not big factors in detecting lies and schemes.
Edit: bed time, thanks for all the fun though :D.

I rarely travel more than this distance from my home.
I'm fairly certain that I am not ignorant.
When an entire society doesn't read, reading is less important to not being ignorant.
You live in the age of information. It is easy for you to gather information from all around the world from your house. However, 700 years ago, if you couldn't read, and you never left your little village, you were ignorant. Maybe you were as educated as you could be in your situation, but you were still ignorant.
And it wasn't the entire society that couldn't read... just the impoverished masses. The ones ruling them could read.

No... they were just ignorant. Maybe compared to everyone they lived with they weren't, but compared to today's society they were. And yeah the communicated orally... with the people in their little village, who had never left the village.
People were ignorant back then, your argument is lacking.

When everyone is ignorant in a society, how can you be certain they are ignorant?
It's the same sort of thing as if everyone in a society is above or below average.
It's not everyone that was ignorant, it was the masses. The upper class was very worldly and wealthy, educated, and coincidentally they were the ones pushing religion on the ignorant masses.
