Horde vs Alliance: Every friendly to each other?

I play Horde on a PvP server. Ganking is rampant; there are certain guilds on my server that I will Kill on Sight, no matter what level their character. And there are some areas that I consider "free fire zones", like STV and Hillsbrad.
But to be honest, if I run across a random Alliance doing a quest or just grinding, I leave them alone. And sometimes, if they're fighting something difficult, or on an escort quest, I'll even give them a hand.
As an example, two days ago, I was wrapping up quests that had fallen by the wayside while levelling in order to work on my Loremaster achievements. I'm in Treokkar , fighting
Levixus the Soul-Caller
, and I made the mistake of forgetting to switch back to boomkin for for the increased armor while my HoTs tick. Squish, corpse walk for me. I rez and buff, and I see a 70 Alliance about to try the same thing. She's a warlock, and has an imp out. I walk over and /wave, and she stops backing away and relaxes. I /point at Levixus, and use the /openfire emote.
She starts blasting on the guy, maybe a bit too hard, because I can't pull aggro off of her, even though I'm hitting Moonfire like I'm in a battleground. With him at 5% health, she finally gets smacked and dies. I finish him off, which completes my quest. But I'm not going to be a $%^&*!, so I stick around and /apologize to the warlock when she rezzes. While waiting for him to respawn, we have a little /dance-off and /tap our feet. This time, I try to flat out DPS the guy once she tags him, and lo and behold, he drops, with her quest also complete.
We both go our separate ways, with no PvP combat initiated.
So yeah, nice things happen between factions. If you're not in a guild that's known for being griefers, and you don't go around picking fights, you'll probably be left alone, and maybe even helped. 99% of players, even on a PvP server, aren't there for the express purpose of ruining your day. And if you run across some of the 1% who are... log off and read a book, or put in some time on an alt.

I'm always kind to my horde counterparts. Once when a couple of undead rogues were attacking Kharanos, my wife and I, in our level 10 dwarf toons, started to just jump around. Pretty soon, the hordes started to just jump with us. They invited a few friends, and the whole town was just jumping. It was bizarre. But at least some of the other lowbies were able to interact with the NPCs.
Another time, I was on my way to a group quest and was friendly to some horde. The group leader admonished me for being kind to the "enemy" and then kicked me out of the group. That, also, was bizarre.

I think that illustrates a good point; it is often the more mature individuals who come up with creative ways of having fun, as opposed to simply wiping out the opposing faction for the heck of it.
I remember during the zombie invasion when several people from my guild grouped up and went to the Blood Elf starting area, and infected all the guards, as well as the players. We got some very interesting responses in General chat. And later on, we attacked our own town of Crossroads. My response to anyone who complained was that this was my revenge for Chuck Norris and Your Mom jokes. A little fun now and again certainly spices things up. I had a macro that did a /say ... ONE OF US ... and every time I "converted" a player of any faction, would hit it a few times.

That's a shame, really. Anyone familiar with the Lore should know that the factions are technically not at war with each other, and Jaina Proudmoore and Thrall, in particular, are working towards a better understanding between the Horde and the Alliance. Hopefully, there will be less fighting of the mortal races and more fighting of the Scourge in the expansion pack. *cough Undercity assault cough*

Once when I was playing my druid in STV I helped a blood elf mage out. She was killing basilisks in the cave and I was going there to grind some leather. Because I didn't need the exp I let her tag the mobs and loot them and then I skinned them. :D

A flagged blood elf will always die. A flagged tauren will be mooed at and maybe even helped if in need.

I play on a rp server and don't really have much of a problem with Alliance (i'm a troll mage)
the worst thing i've ever seen tho happened when i was lvl66 in Nagrand.
A lvl70 gnome rogue happened upon me as I was killing Clefthoof. He was flagged for PvP and challenged me to a duel. I did what i normally do and just /shoo. THen started following me really closely
like walking under my feet for a minute and did nothing while I used ranged spells etc.
Didn't realise what he was up too - of course he waited till I used frost nova on some mobs and therefore freezing him but flaggin myself (silly on my part looking back but it's an RP server and I didn't think people did such a thing). He lol'd with his stoopid gnome laugh and one hit me. To make it worse he then stealthed and waited for me to rez, then one hit me again after i got my corpse.
Like what was the point of that?

I had an Alliance guy do this to me last week. My Orc Hunter is on a PvE server and I couldn't figure out how the heck I got flagged. He and a buddy hung out watching me take on some mobs around Grom'gol. I figured I was safe since I wasn't flagged. Then he ran into the area with the mobs I was fighting and somehow he ended up killing me.
Nice to finally understand what happened.
Some people do abuse these mechanics. Rogues and druids will unstealth directly over a mob you've just killed so that you right-click on them instead, flagging yourself. Alternately they'll purposely run into your AoE attacks (Consecration, Explosive Trap, Blizzard, etc) for the same reason.
As the saying goes, watch your background.
Of course, you can also use these for amusement values as well. Duelling in Gadgetzan? Better not use an AoE attack, or somebody might "accidentally" walk on it, and you suddenly go from a friendly duel to being stomped by the guards.

I'm typically in different mindsets depending on what character i'm on. The only character I actually ganked a lot on was my Rogue when leveling up. >.> But i'm not a big fan of camping, so if I kill someone I wait around for them to rez and give a /sorry /hug before riding off.
On my Mage if I see a Horde do a really bad pull, i'll usually offer some help and assistance. And only once or twice have I been attacked afterwards (Though it's usually because the Horde didn't see me helping them or didn't understand my intentions).
Though being benevolent on my mage is sorta counteracted by how much fun I like having with lowbies... one time I was riding up from Southshore to Chillwind and I saw a group of about 5 lvl 20 Horde killing stuff. I couldn't resist the temptation to jump into the middle of them and Arcane Explosion. >.>
One survived though! /hug /shrug and off I go.
Though hey, Polymorph is a mage's version of healing! If you get sheeped and don't see them charging up a Pyroblast, then /hug them afterwards. ; )

Hardly ever.
While leveling my alt, there has been quite a few times that I had to logout without ressing.
The worst thing is: They are usually 70.
And they try to make you die to mobs instead of just killing you.
This human warlock other day would keep me feared and seduced most the time, making me aggro lots of mobs... luckily, as a protadin, I could take them (they were almost green)... so, he got $%^&ed and OHKO'ed me.
