Or like the new things, they whisper you with "Hello. Are you there?" Even if you say "No", they still answer! And then i say i drown you in the ocean, kiss my ass, fall dead, bla bla all that kind of *!@#... And if that doesn't work, ignore.

All of my characters have the name wulf in there somewhere. So when I get asked for gold, I hit my macro...
The character you are attempting to get gold from is busy attempting to save for an epic mount, financing his addiction to alts, and supporting his guild. I will happily loan you gold at an interest rate of 5000%, compounded hourly. All proceeds go to Wulf Inc. Thank you for your patronage.
Lol, just lol (5000% interest!)

Wow...after reading all the posts, all I can say is what a mean spirited bunch.
It's, not real money, people. So,unless you have no idea how to make money and giving away 1gold or 50 silver is your life savings, give them a break and/or just politely say no.
Did you ever consider that person your leading on a wild goose chase may be just a young kid who doesn't yet understand all the aspects of the game. Just Imagine for a second how he must feel when he puts his faith in your "kindness" and runs one of your wild goose chases thinking he's doing you a favor to earn his money only to find out he was being treated like a jerk. Real nice!
Now I 'm not saying there aren't bogus panhandlers, but I usually inspect the person who's asking. If it's some level 33 looking for money for mount, wearing expensive gear, I usually ignore them or tell them to get it from their guild.
But if it's a level 19 still wearing gray color gear or no gear at all, I throw them a buck, I got plenty. Sometimes if I'm in the mood and the person asked politely I even ask what they want to buy and then buy it for them. If I have the time, I even talk to them, ask them what there skills are. You'd be surprise how many people choose two money eating crafting skills like smithing and enchanting for their first toon. I explain that they should drop one of their crafting skills and pick up a supply skill to support the one they keep. Then sell off the surplus. The expressing of gratitude you get from them, is so much more rewarding then what ever rush you get from making them feel stupid. Now, I know many of you are probably saying all I'm doing is creating an "enabler" and I can't say your wrong. But ask yourself this, if this is the way a person is choosing to play ..then how long do you think he will last, anyway.
All I'm saying you can either kindly give, politely say no, or choose to be mean.
I guess the choice you make says a lot about the kind of person you are..Nuff said!

Sort of off topic, but there is a guy who has set up shop in one of the unoccupied locations in the city and advertises drinks in the trade channel;. You walk in he greets you, offers you a seat and tells you the drink menu and the prices (about twice what they cost from an inn). He does not accept over payments but does accept tips. He netted about 20s from me after his "costs".
Its kind of like begging but it was creative enough that I "tipped" him. When I went by to check it out he had bunch of folks there. Its kind of become a hang out. Seems like an odd way to spend your game time, but maybe it pays well enough.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
How long have you played wow? A day?
Self righteouss and boring post. You would only be teaching that "poor young kid" a !@#$ty lesson.
AND WE HAVE A WINNER !
Wonder who would be the first jerk to respond like that.
Hmmm..Kindness and understanding and tolerance are self-righteous attitudes now.
Oh yeah..your lesson is much better. Treat anyone who doesn't play according to "your" standards as dirt. I guess thats how you get treated in life ..no reason to expect anything different in return. As for how long I've play.long enough..but its not how I play its how I live. Why would I waste my time getting angry about something going on in a make believe game, why would I let someone's action cause me to do something that by definition is miserable because I want to "teach them a lesson". I just don't get it.
Like I said before either your hearts in the right place or its not. I know where mine is and now I guess we know where yours is.
