The best way
" sure, just give me a sec"
<put on ignore>
I always wonder just how long they follow me around trying to talk to me before they figure it out. I figure the more time of theirs I waste, the less people hey will bother.

The horde misdirect trick no longer works. That used to be such a sweet way to deal with beggars in Orgrimmar.

The horde misdirect trick no longer works.
Care to explain this one? Does it involve level 1 beggars and Gamon?

No, you used to be able to go 'at war' with the cenarion circle and misdirect that level 55 tauren guy at the org flight tower onto a gold beggar.
Now if you do it, he attacks you instead and Feign Death doesn't work on him. Last time I tried it I had to kill the guy (only -25 CC rep, and really, who does CC these days?)

I usually ignore them, without actually typing /ignore unless they're persistent.
If you're a Paladin on an RP server, just tell them that the knights of your order take a vow of poverty, and therefore you have no gold to give them. Or, just go about your business and pay them no mind.

I think the gold in the trade window thing is the best I've heard in a while.

Wait for the next goldbegger to come up and /trade you, pop 100g (or whatever amount) in the window, wander off and get a coffee.
See their whispers get more and more frantic as they see the money so close, but yet so far.
Go and watch TV for a bit.
This.
I did it once, and the guy was /saying "Hey hit trade!" for a good 15 minutes. Best laugh I had in a long time.

A buddy of mine just loves messing with them when they beg. For example, when asked "Can you please give me 20 gold? It's all I need to get my mount." He'll respond, "I'll give you 20 gold if you give me 21. kk?" Oddly enough, they don't seem to understand they're being *!@#ed with. All they see is the potential to get 20g.
Not as effective as the above methods, but if you like screwing around with them, it's as good as any.
I typically just ignore the question and move on.

I should do the warlock-summoning-into-deep-water trick sometime.
The other one is just awesome. I *WILL* be doing that in the future :P
