I have recently taken a break from Arena PvP, but now that the 3.2 patch is heralding many PvP buffs for my chosen class, (restoration shaman) I figure I should get the ball rolling. Although I have concentrated on 2v2 for the most part, due to the nerfs I will have to seek a new bracket to PvP in. I understand that shamans are considered very useful in the 5v5 bracket (Look at my sig, 'nuff said).
So what I am asking is: what is the best possible 5v5 comp that a restoration shaman could be a member of? What is the general play strategy of said comp?
Keep in mind this comp would be designed with patch 3.2 in mind, not the current situation of 3.1 (cleave is recieving a substantial nerf with weaker paladins and deathknight burst).
Any feedback is appreciated.

Is it advisable to spec as elemental (I have the gear for it since I use a crit set for resto) for 5v5? Or is restoration better?

RMP owns warriors in 3's for the same reason MR or M/Disc owns warriors in 2's. As a warrior, if you target the mage, bubble + blink/nova make things difficult for you to stay in range. Target the rogue or the priest, and you get poly spammed (especially true if your healer is a druid). Your 3rd partner is best off being someone that can either CC the mage, or the priest, like a warlock but even then, expect to lose alot. RMP hasn't been the best for such a long time without reason, it has answers to almost every spec.
I usually find the answer to be whenever there is a rogue, kill him first. It will be much much harder for a warrior to stay within melee range of a mage long enough to score a kill. The rogue will also probably peel you off if you attack the disc with crip, so you might as well stay on the rogue, have your partners try to control the priest or mage, and score a kill on the rogue first.

I've been thinking of Warrior, affliction warlock, restoration shaman, holy paladin, and feral druid as a 5v5 team. Despite the feral nerfs it seems like this would be a potent 5v5 team with good kiting and anti-kite, good buffs, high DoT damage, an MS effect and very well distributed CC and stuns. Feral druids and Arms warriors also synergise very well due to the Trauma skill that warriors posess. The high DoT damage would be taking advantage of the new resilence changes, and it would play an outlast strategy. The warrior and feral druid class are also capable of providing some serious burst when required.
Another option would be to replace the warrior or affliction warlock with a hunter.
Is this a viable setup?
Affliction Warlock, Frost Mage, Rogue, Shadow Priest and Resto Shaman seem like a good idea, but solo healing can be tough and I am not sure on the viability of shadowpriests in arena since 3.0.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about that 5v5 setup Arcanum mentioned - yes it may only have 1 healer as you said Booterang, but considering the play style of the setup, I don't see having solo healing to be a problem. They have great CC where if played right, can have up to 3 or 4 of the opposing team unable to affect the game.
Lets say the opposing team has 2 healers: Resto Druid & Disc Priest
I'm going to assume they would focus target the Resto Druid while CC'ing the rest of the team. The Druid would have a hard time surviving DoTs from the Rogue, Warlock & Priest, not to mention the MS effect. Yes the Druid can remove poison but the Priest can dispel and the Rogue can stunlock. Either way, the Druid is in a bit of a pickle.
Now, while this is going on, the rest of the team can apply control / counters to win the match.
You've got Poly (which is spamable to a certain extent - useful in situations where the player trinkets - unlike other CC which has looooong cooldowns), Sap / Blind combo, Hex, Frost Nova (might not seem amazing but when used with Cone of Cold / Deep Freeze, it can effectively keep a Warrior out of the match) and of course fear. Bearing in mind you have 2 AoE fears...
Now... when you take all of those into account, you could keep their other healer (in our example the Disc Priest) out of the match with the Sap / Blind - and if he trinkets, Hex the sucker. Then the DPS of the opposing team can be handled with the AoE fears. If the our Resto Shaman is being attacked then our Mage can apply a Poly to give the Shaman enough time to recover.
I'm sure come 3.2, a lot of teams will have Warriors / Dk's and if so, then they would be focusing the Shaman, in this scene, the Mage's defensive CC is even more effective.
Thats just my 2 cents. Did I get the right idea about the setup Arcanum?
