This seemed like a guide for those that want to get in/start a raiding guild and do their job well, carry their weight. Sure you can "get by" with less... why would you? More than 3 of those people in a raid will wreck it.
I guess to summarize what I've been trying to say in my previous posts; gear isn't as important as this guide makes out, and gear is by no means an equal substitute for skill. We can banter about numbers until the end of time but it is my opinion that the numbers presented in the guide are on the extreme side.
Other than the stat-requirement segment, I thought it was spot on, especially the preparation part (learning tactics, bringing consumables).

All items you speak of have little to no equivalent. Felsteel set is blue and therefore not factored into any of the numbers provided for raiding stats. This isn't a "How to gear for heroics" guide - if you are choosing
Felsteel
over anything else, it means that you do not have the option of an
epic
<-50 badges, btw.
The rep
ring
from Kara? What are it's available contenders?
2.4 ring
is far superior based on
stamina
alone - not armor, as they are the same. Let's say you're not fully rep'ed up with Kara - in that case, you still have
badges
for a decent choice.
So, no. Still not seeing an instance that one would use armor to decide their gear. Thank you, Parra & Celd for attempting to reinforce my point.
Edit: Altered Rogue stats a bit per request.
You really do your best not to understand things, don't you. It just so happens that characters have two ring slots. My warrior happens to have exactly that 2.4 badge ring, but what about the other slot? Oh yes, the kara rep ring.
The felsteel items are excellent placeholders until you get badge gear or other epics. You could be wearing them through most of karazhan easily, because karazhan is the easiest place to get badges (and gear requirements can actually be lower for karazhan than for heroics, especially if you are going with an otherwise overgeared group).
Just to elaborate,
Violet Signet of the Great Protector
is better than
Seventh Ring of the Tirisfalen
which drops from trash in TK (except that you will prefer the latter in your threat outfit). So there, armor deciding things. Whoop-de-doo.

EDIT: 102.4% avoidance on a pala O_o.... Your lucky to have 45%
Mine is 103.2% with Holy shield up. Since I have the libram that adds 5% block when I use HS, that equals 68.2% passive avoidance. That's not "lucky," it's standard for MT in upper Kara, any my particular gear setup is nonstandard, as far as what you'll see in any "guide." Oh, and I don't have the +dodge enchant on my cloak.
All but one piece of gear is blue, all obtained in regular dungeons and heroics. Stick to posting about classes you know.
Are you sure that's actually 103.2% avoidance though? Block isn't avoidance, so I suspect you may be talking about the avoidance + block number, which is what you look at for crushing blow immunity. 102.4% avoidance is the target for rogue tanks and stuff like that.

Yes, avoidance + block is what I meant. Over in the paladin forums, block chance gets lumped in there when discussing uncrushability.

Funny how far people can go in this game without understanding the second most important aspect of his character spec... Stick to posting about classes you know.
Every Paladin knows that when calculating the 102.4% "avoidance" number, block chance is included. While other classes (that don't use shields) consider avoidance as miss/dodge/parry, paladins add block to the list.
Please tell me something about paladin tanking that I (apparently) don't know.

You may not be aware of it, but regardless of class, block isn't avoidance. Stick to posting about games you know the mechanics of.

Good guide. It's a nice, general overview with a lot of excellent information (including the numbers, IMO - stats are subjective but they can be subjective either way, and you've said throughout that you can make up for lower numbers with higher skill), and I'll point a couple of new players I know of toward it.
The only thing I dislike is the constant use of "casual player" like it's a dirty word - but there are, I suppose, multiple definitions of "casual".
I consider myself and my guild "casual", in that we don't spend 6 nights a week raiding and the 7th night farming to restock our raid supplies. We clear Kara Saturday nights and work for 10-man progression on Sundays, and muck around the rest of the time with whatever we want to do, be that PvP or heroics or helping newbies with gear runs. Only a few of our members play more than a couple of hours a night, yet we've gone from just starting Karazhan 2 months ago to clearing Kara in 5.5 hours (no universal prize, I know, but it is to us!) - and this past weekend we went into ZA for the first time, one-shotted Nalorakk and would have taken Eagle too if we hadn't run out of time.
I guess if I had one suggestion for the guide, it would be to define "casual". To me, taking 20 minutes to read over the strategy on a new boss, and to pick up the appropriate pots/food at the AH (or grind the mats yourself) doesn't push you out of the "casual" category. It's when you find yourself getting chewed out for missing a TK run because it was your sibling's birthday -
and you actually apologize for your "transgression"
- that you've wandered out of casual land.
