So i know most, if not all, fire mages have seen the repercussions of this recent nerf, and to be honest, it's about more than just a loss of DPS.
1. The obvious, we lost a TON of dps with the nerfs.
2. With an unglyphed combustion, we can almost always expect a combustion to be weaker than it was in cataclysm.
3. With ignite being the only source of damage that combustion's dot is based off of, it feels like there is nothing actually interesting about it any more. A single dot i use gets frozen at 50% of it's current value, then ticks for that value over 20 seconds (10 if unglyphed).
4. With combustion effectively being reduced to a minor/Medium dps CD, this has ripped all value from our 4 peice tier bonus <
Item - Mage T14 4P Bonus>. It basically is allowing us to cast it 12/24 seconds faster...
5. With a reduced critical chance, we can expect way fewer hot streak procs, therefore (again) weaker combustions.
At first it felt like, hey fire's back in business, full force and combustion is better than ever. Now it's more of a, *Fireball, Fireball, fireball fireball fireball, scorch, fireball... OH HOLY CRAP HEATING UP!* Rinse and repeat. This is a rotation most unfitting of a class that was so heavily focused on RNG last expac. Now we have the rotation of Cata-Arcane with the unreliability of a crippled goat.
This isn't meant to be a whine fest, ie. "Why u nerf'd mah class blzzrd". More of a "Please examine the true effects of this choice, and going forward, provide the spec a bit more uniquity." I mean, i wish one of my spells made a Sha <
Shadowfiend>, or had a cool/unique effect. Please don't leave us a crippled mass of uninteresting goo in the corner.

I know how all of you feel. I have been playing my mage as may main since WoLK came out, and I have played pretty much every single spec that has ever been made available (Deep Frost, Deep Fire, Arcane, Frost-Fire, Torment of the Weak-Fire, etc), and my favorite has always been fire. Not sure if it's the sheer "coolness" of mastering the fire element, or that it as the only spec with DoTs (back in WoLK Arcane had the highest DPS, but Fire the best Damage, specially for longer fights).
When MoP came out, yes fire was VERY overpowered. And yes, nerfs are always not welcome. But the fact that a good player like me (I am far from an excellent or pro) was always on the top 1-2 of the charts was a sign that it was too powerful.
Howerver, the nerf was done incorrectly, in my humble opinion. And the reasons given by Ghostcrawler are a bunch of crap ("fire mages having 7 pyros back-to-back"), I mean, who the HELL has ever gotten 7 pyros in a row?
So, what I believe whould have been the correct nerf, would be:
PvP:- Reduce the Critial Mass buff to 1.3
- Combustion Damage based only on Ignite proc (60% of the damage)
- Reduce Pyroblast and Fireball damage by 7%
That would reduce the burst, which is totally in line with Blizzard's strategy for PvP, without ruining the class.
PvE:- Keep Critial Mass buff at 1.5. Reducing this hurts people leveling fire spec.
- Combustion Damage based on Ignite proc (60% of the damage) + 20% of Pyro Damage
- Reduce Pyroblast and Fireball damage by 7%
That would reduce overall damage, without hurting the mechanics of the class (RNG Heating Up). On top fo that, people don't need to have an ilvl above 500 to get decent crit procs, but the overall damage would be lower, much in line with the other classes/specs.
What do you guys think?
