Coldkil's
guide
is pretty good. Just don't listen to him when he says Assa feels slow. ;)

Assassin you have 1 combo point generator with a button that gets shiny every now and then, and an execute range. You have a dps cd that resets every 2 mins (in line with orc racial and herb profession). This rotation is all about maximizing without clipping your SND, Envenom and Rupture buff/debuffs. Assassin is the best when aoe'ing A LOT of mobs.
Sub you've got 2 combo point generators, one for behind the target and one for where the target's facing doesn't matter. You have a dps cd that resets every 1 min (and vanish every 2 mins, and possibly Preparation if you talent into it). The rotation is very predictable and simple now, just rupture and SND buff to watch. Sub is the worst at aoe.
Combat you've got 1 combo point generator, and in general, its very spammy. The DPS cds reset timer fluctuates. Bit harder than cata, need to maximize usage of
(the Anticipation talent makes this more interesting),
, SND and Rupture buffs and debuffs. Combat is the best when aoe'ing, assuming you're within melee range of everything, a handful of mobs, which is probably best for dungeon dps.

I'd just like to say that, currently, subtlety feels as close to the classic, vanilla WoW rogue as anything since BC. I always found it hard to imagine my rogue being sneaky with a sword the size of a surf board. Also, referring to the sub rotation explanation above, you'll want to ignore that. He left out quite a bit, including the regular use of Ambush and how to utilize the constant incoming combo points from Honor Among Thieves. It is the current top dps spec for rogues and does quite well on aoe because you get to the finisher over and over. All that being said, you'll spec to the best weapons you have. If you have a sword that's your best weapon, you're in combat. If you have 2 daggers, sub. If you enjoy Assassin, go assassin. Mostly, run the spec you most enjoy until it's time to raid and your dps really becomes an issue.

If you want something fun and gets you to move choose sub and assimilation because to keep up DPS you must do things to maximize it.
Combat is very.. repetitive but high survivability and also consistent DPS.
Im combat for raiding and i love it because of the cleave ability.
