We are in this cycle right now, and I feel that the only way to break it is to generate content and then link it to bring more people here. Once more people come to use this content, the forums will get more people here on their own.
That is exactly what I'm thinking. We don't even need to generate new content, just post the relevent breaking news information in each of the forums as discussion topics. It starts there.
If the busines model has evolved to transition the site to more of a news/database site and the forums are just a sidebar, it still behooves zam/wowhead to encourage click-throughs and this would be an easy way to do so imo.
I'm going to try and set a side some time next week to work with the paladin forums. I've been so busy for the last weeks though with my real world job, that I don't even have time to play Wow that much anyways. I hit 90 on sunday =P
It feels like since Cataclysm, people have had less to discuss about their classes. They read about them on guides, or see developers interacting on the official forums (or MMO-C's), and go from there.
I totally agree, I just wish that we have some of that stuff here as well. We used to have such great summery posts in the paladin forums, and now we don't have a single one. Out of 10 paladin guides, we only have 1 that is 5.0.4 and it's PvP based. I'm sad that the community doesn't propagate the information like it used too.
To be fair, the site is a database first and foremost. That's been the goal of the site for years. The community is awesome and it's that side of the site that hooked me in but, what is the site? It's the best WoW database on the web.
True, that's what Wowhead is, and if you look at
the stats. We are doing very well. Losing forums won't ever hurt the data of Wowhead, it will just hurt the forums of Wowhead =P. If a site is good at something, having other things that it's good at will just make it that much better.
Cheers,
Hat
