Hey guys,
I have been playing wow since WoLK came out, and never had problems with my dps. At the end of both WoLK and Cata, I was constantly on top of the meters for 25 man raids.
I have been having problems with MoP, though. I currently raid fire-spec (using the Fire Class thread from Icy Veins) and have put together my pre-raid gear using the last version of RAWR.
My stats (with fire-spec and best gear on):
Spellpower: just under 17k
Haste: 5.08%
Hit: 15.14%
Crit: 21.01%
Mastery: 20%
ilvl: 463
My talents and glyphs:
Scorch
Ice Barrier
Frostjaw
Cauterize
Living Bomb
Invocation
Glyphs:
- Evocation
- Combustion
- Fire Blast
I'm following all the proper rotation according to the Icy Veins class guide (
http://www.icy-veins.com/fire-mage-wow-pve-dps-guide
), and even though I still need shoulder enchants, the rest of enchants/gems are all covered (enchanting/tailoring professions).
In the end, I can´t pull more then 40k dps. Even if I get all the pyroblasts! correcly in, keep living bomb up, still won´t work.
Any suggestions?
I didn´t link my armory just because I usually logout with my "Quest" spec/gear.

Are you missing any Heating Up buffs? By that, I mean when you get the buff, do you immediately follow the next Fireball cast with an Inferno Blast? If you do and you're not getting Pyroblast! procs, then you're losing a lot of DPS.
A lot of fire's DPS comes from spreading our Combustion DoT too. I have MSBT set up so that it shows me how much my Ignite is ticking for, but only when Combustion is available. If it's ticking for 15k+, I usually Combust followed by an Inferno Blast to spread it.
Be sure you know when you have Heating Up and for how much your Ignite is ticking for. It helps to know when your Pyroblast crits too, as that adds a ton to your Ignite DoT.
When my stars align, I have seen Ignite ticks for 63k. Don't think I didn't immediately Combust and then spread it. 250k DPS for 10 seconds feels awesome.

Thanks for the speedy response TheRealArkayn.
Yeah, I use a few addons to help me track those, like CombustionHelper, for example. I have also mapped Pyroblast to one o my my WOW's mouse quick-to-reach buttons, so I can make sure that I never miss a Pyroblast! proc.
Regarding your advice of Combustion + Inferno Blast works well for AoE, but when we are talking about a boss (for example, Feng the Accursed, which is a pretty tank & spank straight fight in LFR), its single-target DPS, that won't help.
I am wondering if the problem is the crit %: back in WoLK, during Ulduar, the top mage spec was what they called "Torment Spec", which was fire + torment of the weak talent from the arcane tree. That was king, but only if you had a minimum crit %. Otherwise, Arcane spec was the best.
So, I begin to think that maybe Fire is a pretty strong dungeon/raiding spec, but only if you have 33% crit or more (with raid buffs and all), like it was in Cataclysm. I thought about going Arcane or Frost spec for dungeons/raid, but the gear needs for them are pretty different (Crit + Haste for Fire, Mastery + Haste for Arcane, Haste + Crit for Frost), so I would need to re-gear all over again.

UPDATE: apparently the fire spec is bugged. After browsing the Elitistjerks forums it seems that there is a bug with the Heating Up mechanics:
http://elitistjerks.com/f75/t126895-mists_pandaria_all_specs/p7/
Basically, if you score a crit but are already casting another spell, the game takes into consideration that other spell's crit for the Pyroblast!, which means that if you cast the spell and after that use Inferno Blast, unless that second spell crits, you will lose the Heating Up proc. This gets really worse if you are close to your target, since you have less time to cast Inferno Blast before your next fireball strikes the target.
Anyways, going to switch to Frost to see if my dps goes up, and wait until Blizzard fixes this problem before going back to fire.

I wouldn't call that a bug. We should be at range anyway, at least in most PvE. Simply start spamming your Inferno Blast while your Fireball is casting and it should land long before your Fireball does.

Always Be Casting
or
Never interrupt casting a spell, unless it's do or die.

Just read the patch 5.0.5 hotfixes, and saw that Blizzard changed a little the delay for Heating Up to go away, hopefully that will help a lot:

What number is your haste at you should have it at 3011 or 3056 I forget whih number is the one for an extra tick of combustion. It is worth dropping 1-2% crit for that at this gear levels.

I actually have changed to Frost spec now. After I read the nerfs to Fire in the coming patch (5.1) I got even more unhappy about Fire, so I decided to stay away from it for a while.
As Frost spec my DPS just doubled! I replaced 3 pieces of gear to give more importance to haste then crit, and I went from consistent 35k dps to something around 65k dps, with some spikes at 80k in some LFR fights.
Sure, I don't have the AoE power that a spread-out combustion has, but my single-target (boss) dps has gone wayyyyy up. The fingers of Frost + Ice Lance and instant FFB combos are too damn strong at the moment. Take into consideration those combos with the +25% increased damage from Invocation and the dps is pretty great.

Actually, Frost has way better AOE than Fire. My experience is basically the opposite of yours. I get slightly higher dps on single-target bosses as Fire, but AOE on frost is just insane.

If you play just for the fun of it, it's not that big of a deal (although the reduction on instant Pyros you get is kinda of a pain). But if you play in a competitive guild, well, things are a little different (remember WoW these days is all about MAX/MIN).
I had to go Arcane spec, and although it does prove to have very nice DPS for PvE (for PvP I go Frost), it's boring as hell to play.
I still pray everyday for Blizzard to fix the Fire Spec again, but up to now, nothing has changed.
And as for the Arcane Spec, well, the problem is that it needs a revamp, to be more mobile, which would make it less of a pain to manage the stacks, and much more fun to play.
