His point wasn't that necromancers are OP, though, it is that magic is unpredictable, and there are thousands of variant strategies where this magic or that magic or these spellcasters or those spellbreakers could single handedly turn the tide of battle.
Heh well of course.

Horde would win, an all out battle. I say this mainly because of how war, spellcraft, and fortitude is so deeply ingrained within Horde culture they would outlast the Alliance. The Horde is a war machine. Alliance, will fall but at great costs.
Honestly: Neither side would win, as both groups would be utterly and completely decimated with a very low population of all races except for the Forsaken remaining....well, as long as the Val'kyrs weren't wiped out in the first month of battle that is.
Considering all the new 'fun and interesting' weapons popping up, there wouldn't be much of an Azeroth left; hell, would probably see the 'evil' groups banding together to try to stop the factions from destroying the world. After all, Queen Azshara wants Azeroth for herself and doesn't want it as a smoldering wreckage with no water for her people to survive in.

Be funny to see the Twilight's Hammer and Shadow Council trying to join up with the Horde and Alliance to help destroy the world, too... :P

The alliance is currently the Horde's equal military-wise yet there are less soldiers in the alliance than the horde, In total war, this actually works for the alliance.

Indeed it would.

The Horde has a higher ratio of war-ready folks in its population, but the Alliance drastically outnumbers them population-wise. I had been under the impression that, for the most part, the Alliance military outnumbers the Horde, which would explain why the Alliance has troops all up inside the Horde's business in 5.1, while the Horde doesn't even have many troops on their beaches half the time.

I think the horde would win, because the Forsaken could just use the plague and nuke everyone like they did in Wrathgate.

Ultimately, it depends on the ingenuity of the leaders. Both sides have a vast array of weapons of war, fleets of war machines, and elite heroes capable of leading the charges. Both have cities which are virtually impossible to capture (Ironforge and Thunder Bluff), so really, it all depends on the leaders' responses and decisions.
Thunderbluff is actually fairly easy to capture. It is on the bluffs, but if it came to a siege the place couldn't last. It has no means of supplying itself and is easily surrounded, since the only way down are the elevators or flying mounts. Both of which are easily countered.

The problem with this arguement is that Azeroth has portals.
I mean, Dalaran is even less self-sufficient then thunderbluff, with no way to supply itself. But under seige, they could easily just portal supplies in and last indefinately.
Besides that, the Tauren have shamans and druids, who could possibly manage to grow food and such up there. In addition to the portals, and that your only chance of taking it is a massive ariel assault? Thunder Bluff could last a very long while.

In our world, but Azeroth is totally different. Augmented with magic and such, it's possible their militaries never thought of such a thing.

Let's forget the idea of portals, otherwise this would be a completely different discussion. Seiges would last forever, and the enemy could just port into your home town.
Shamans and Druids are a valid point though. Unlike Ironforge, and probably anywhere else but Teldrassil, Thunder bluff can grow its own food on the inside. It's still a fundamental part of the World.
And there are wards for keeping unwanted mages out of your cities.

The best part about ironforge? To siege ironforge you have to siege stormwind at the same time.
