1. what's the feel of the revamped talent system? Can I expect depth in terms of build customization without extensive theory crafting?
What I like about the new talent is mostly that you can change them anywhere and adapt to a fight. It's not really more depth, but even the old talent system was pretty cookie-cutter build.
2. I'm not a power gamer and rarely pvp. Is the game now less grindy and more interesting pve contents?
Xedosz answered pretty much. There's more and I really like the new addition but some people are still "all about raids".
There's also guild achievement if you join one and want to participate in that.
They also redone almost all the questing zone with Cataclysm so you might enjoy leveling a new character again.
3. True or false? Scroll of rez will let me upgrade all the way to cata, FREE.
True, you'll still need to buy MoP if you want to get up to level 90.
4. This is subjective - I played abit of Rift and love it's flexible class system. Should I get storm legion instead of mop?
It's all a matter of what you really prefer. My thought is that WoW is and always been more polished and have more content that any other game. And they added even more with MoP.
But hey you are on a WoW forum you will have to expect people suggesting you WoW. MoP is so far the best expension for me.

Because the talents from the old trees have been folded into the specs; all of the 'no !@#$' abilities and the like are now learned as you level. The new Trees allow for change on the fly: Say you have a talent for a fear, but you are heading into a fight where the mob is immune; no problem, just swap it to a different one.
From here on out, EJ and others will be working on making it so that they know the 'best' talent...and for the rest of us, we'll just use the ones we like the best.
