I was wondering if anyone knew what JC skill lvl is required to be able to loot these patterns (level for cata, level for pandaria, level for LK). The so called smart drops. Also, are there world drops for Engineering as well? Maybe the lvl varies depending on the recipe?
Thanks

I was at 525 JC and had probably 6 of the new meta gem recipes (JC 575) drop in my first few hours in Pandaria. Since then it's slowed way down (naturally since there are fewer recipes).

So its skill level independent? Even if i have a 200 JC level I will still be able to see them?

I can't answer that, sorry, just reporting what I experienced.
I had also trained Zen Master JC (opening the 526>600 range) naturally, so that might be the requirement for them to drop also; there just isn't enough data in my one experience to make any conclusive determination.

I made a monk, naturally no profs. so when i got around to leveling JC on him post 90. it sat in the 200 range for a couple of days, i received meta recipes in the treasures of the vale after my dailies. however once i finished going all the way into the 500s did i begin to start getting recipes. got like 3 from the first heroic after getting to i think like 580. So i would have to say there is at least a 500 requirement maybe even 525.

Interesting, then it would seem that the recipe tier has to be trained to see them, maybe this holds true for all professions? like as long as you have zen learnt you would see alchemy or JC or enchanting which belong to that tier based on your professions.
I just wish someone would confirm this.

dont believe any other professions really have those kinds of drops. alch discovers most if not all of theirs. didnt even know engi could find recipes like that out in the world. I really think JC is the only one. Other recipes are like raid recipes which drop for a raid, everyone can see it and roll on it.
