During the time I played Mists yesterday, I received an achievement announcement (gold box, achievement name and a green check mark) that said something like "Achievement 'something' in progress by 'my name'." I looked through the Exploration Achievement area for Mists and checked the Questing Achievement area and didn't find anything that showed me what was going on.
Is this just a notification of a step that's been completed for a larger achievement? Is this part of the Loremaster achievement and it's being handled differently? I've stayed in each of the areas and done all the quests that I can until the one that sends you away to another area. Bascially, there are no gold !'s when I leave, unless there's an NPC out in the boonies somewhere that I haven't run across.
Anyway, just curious as to how this all fits into the picture.
Thanks.

It's something they changed in the pre-paunch patch. I noticed it when I killed a couple of rares, and got an announcement box that I had made progress on "Northern Exposure" or "Frostbitten" or whatever it was.

Both correct though not the same thing. When you complete steps for an achievement that require multiple, you'll get the notification.
The loremaster achievement for Pandaria is now a meta achievement of completing multiple storylines in an area... which show up as achievement progress when you complete one.
You might also have noticed them when clicking on objects showing a short piece of lore when read, those are lore objects and are used by achievements under Exploration -> Pandaria.

I like the notification box. It let's me know that what I just did was part of an achievement, and as a person who loves doing achievements, it lets me know that I'm accomplishing something!

Thanks for all the great information. Yes, I like the notices, too but they are a bit confusing if you don't know how it relates to what you just did. I thought, because of the 'in progress', that I was on step 1 of something, rather than completing that particular portion. Anyway, I appreciate you all taking the time to answer my question.
