There of course will be a lot of people rushing to 90 on the first day. But if you have a lot of 85s, especially with all professions covered, there are a few things you might want to make sure you do on your alts during that first day.
Tailoring... You will want to get to 550 tailoring so you can make your daily Imperial Cloth. This will be very easy to do if you send the cloth from your main to your tailoring alt. Also a good idea to have cata mats ready on your alt to get the first 15 points of tailoring using old mats. ( for instance, I am using chaos orbs to make dreamcloth, and then leg enchants).
Inscription.. Definitely want to make sure you make your Scroll of Wisdom. Scrolls of wisdoms will be the limiting thing for a lot of the fun stuff you will want to make later on. Doing the first one on launch day means that 20 days from then, you will be able to craft your BOA epic staff.
JC. You will get your rare recipes through discoveries, but you can only do one per day. Basically you will want to mine and prospect until you get 3 of the same of any colored rare gem. You then use those 3 gems to learn a new recipe for that same colored gem. You can only do one such discovery per day.
I am still not sure how Alchemy will work on live. My last try on beta, you could just make 20 potions and get 18ish new recipes. there seemed to be no cooldown at all on discovering new recipes. There is of course a CD on transmute the new ´living steel´.. but if you are hardcore enough to get alchemy to 600 and gather the Trillian ore... well.. there is nothing you are going to learn from me anyway.
Also, it is probably a good idea to get your main through the Farm starting sequence in valley of the 4 winds. On your first day, you will be able to plant 4 crops, which will net you 20 vegetables. There will be a lot of people confused by the cooking quests (hint. Grow carrots) and they will probably be looking at the AH for carrots on the second day.
The only other time sensitive thing I can think of is VP. there has been a lot of talk about the new Factions, but in reality, the factions don´t matter as much as people think. VP is going to be the limiting thing. IMHO, the most important thing you can do the first week is make sure you get VP capped (1000). There is no rush to do the actual reps since you won´t have the VP to buy anything anyway.

Great thread, is there anything else you can give a heads up on for making gold, stockpiling etc?

There are a few opportunities where you can make gold from the hardcore raiders, especially the first two weeks.
Golden Lotus - These things are going to have a huge price tag the first few weeks, and probably awhile after that. These spawn in and replace any other herb, but they are exceedingly rare on beta and all progressive raiders will be chewing threw them.
Trillium Ore - Same as golden lotus. Rare spawn that replaces a normal node. Seems to be much lower than pyrite spawns in Cata.
As a non-progressive raider, I will be selling both of these the first month. You can get to 600 in alchemy and BS without using either of them.
Rare gems will be interesting to watch. JCs need them to actually discover new recipes, so in the beginning, players will probably be burning through them a lot. But it is hard to gauge on beta, but it seems like ghost ore is everywhere and prospecting is providing more of the rare gems. The change with gem stats should also spread the value of the colors around a little more ( in cata, red always had a much higher price). My plan is just to take note of how often I am seeing ghost ore nodes on live... if it is like beta (everywhere), then there probably won´t be a huge market for uncut gems, but cut gems will have a higher value because of the discovery process gating.
