Hi. I don't play on a hunter, so I'd love to know if anyone can tell me what use a hunter can make out of
Varo'then's Brooch
. A hunter has just need rolled and won over me (str dps), I don't see why.

it was a huntard, a clueless hunter that rolls of stuff thats bad for his class.
unfortunately you bump into these players sometimes, best thing is too say they made a mistake and tell that they need stuff with agility on it. and politely ask if you could have the item thats usefull too you and useless too them.
ofcourse its no guarentee the huntard will listen too this request, but its always worth a shot and will give better results then swearing/name calling the huntard.
Pretty much this. That trinket is completely useless for a hunter.

That's annoying then, as a hunter was allowed to roll need on it. I thought Blizzard's current looting system fixed that..

IIRC trinkets have not been included in this system because they can easily be good for someone they weren't designed for - in this case though, no such excuse.
@OP I think you ran into one of those players that hit need on everything they can, either because of greed or due to having been exposed to that too much, and now doing it to get his/her "fair" share of the loot.

There's a LOT of holes in the looting system atm. Trust me.
