Right now blizzard is mostly focusing on getting new players on board, which turns out to be a fail strategy, because the new players market is saturated and offer very little growth
Do you have any actual facts---as in hard statistics--to back up the assertion that the new player market offers little growth?
I don't see Blizzard making any major changes to the SoR.
I don't even see them needing too. The assumption and previous history indicates that the drop in subscriptions will stop and reverse with the release of the next expansion on Sept 25th. If the numbers don't sharpy improve or they somehow experience another drop in subscribers then I'd imagine some thought will go into reworking these systems or the possible introduction of a new one.

The first step is to make subscription that expired at and before July 4th eligible for the scroll instead of just before March 4th.
So, reward players that let their subscription lapse? Nah. They'll probably drop the current promotion with 5.0 and return to the old system, where you can resurrect an account that has been inactive for 3 months or more.

First of all, I feel that if blizzard really want their players back after the 2nd quarter huge loss of subs, they better start making some steps to reduce the repercussion. Personally, I feel like scroll of resurrection is a good starting point. The first step is to make subscription that expired at and before July 4th eligible for the scroll instead of just before March 4th. Second is that they can increase the time of free play before you have to purchase a game card/ subscribe after using a scroll (2 weeks to a month sounds realistic, plus it gives an incentive for players to purchase MoP, since it's coming up in less than 2 month). Right now blizzard is mostly focusing on getting new players on board, which turns out to be a fail strategy, because the new players market is saturated and offer very little growth. ( FYI, fresh subscribers get a free month in addition of their game time, while nothing for royal subscribers who played for years). It's time to bring back the old schools. What are your thoughts on this?
My thoughts on this? You couldn't be more wrong. The SoR was just recently changed March 3/2012 so its not due for an overhaul again for at least a couple years.

Possibly the most illogical statement concerning subscription growth in the history of the industry. I won't even ask you for data to back up that statement as it is so completely absurd.

The "old schools" are either staunchly here or are at stages of their lives that leave little time for gaming. The ones who cause sub numbers to fluctuate are the ones who barrel through content at breakneck speeds, and then complain about being bored and unsub. I would term these people casual-visitors and enjoy their company while they play and stop thinking about them while they are gone.
