Addon to make item icons look different?

Okay, so you know how Hearth Defender Bracers, Carapace Boots, Bragger's Gauntlets, Bloodtalon Keeper's Leggings, etc. have a green "highlight" or "aura" around their icons? I think it would be awfully convenient if I could make that aura blue instead, to better match the blue aura around Rugged Mail Vest, Rustmetal Bracers, and Roamer's Leggings. I'd also like to add some green to the icons for Salvoblast Tunic, Rear Guard Britches, Treads of the Sepulcher, Belmont's Bracers, etc.; add blue auras to the icons for Korok's Ring, Emberstone Breastplate, Treads of the True Plan, Bellipotent Gloves, and Dividend Leggings; and add purple auras around Vessel of the Dark Lady, Unmistakable Gloves, Negotiation Stompers, and so on.
Is there an addon or some other way to screw around with the inventory icons like this?

It's quite easy indeed: Simply put the edited file into \Interface\Icons (right next to Addons) but they have to be in
.blp
format - you'll need a program like
BLPConverter
to convert your edited files.
The file names are exactly as used on Wowhead (though with .blp of course)

the edited file
What do you mean? What edited file?

What do you mean? What edited file?
Well you take the original file (easiest way is to download it from Wowhead: click any icon, in that dialog, "original" is a direct link to the image in PNG) and modify it with your image editing software of choice, and save. That's the edited file which you have to convert to .blp before WoW can read it in \Interface\Icons

This isn't making any sense. The files don't already exist on my hard drive, but WoW is programmed to look for them anyway, and the "originals" are in the wrong format and only available from Wowhead?
What the hell is going on here?

The files on Wowhead aren't the "originals", these are just the converted files that this website uses to display the icons in the database.
You could extract the original .blp files from the game files, but both the extraction and the conversion (to an image format that is easily editable) are tedious, while getting them from Wowhead, already in .png format, is way easier and faster.
And yes, these files don't exist as singles files by default, they are encoded/compressed in the game files,
but
if the World of Warcraft client finds appropriately named files in Interface\Icons, it uses those instead. It is an intended way to alter their look in the game. There are
several "addons"
that utilize this.
Forgot to mention an even better .blp viewer and converter:
XnView

Yeah, I'd rather extract the original files directly from the .mpq files en masse instead of downloading recompressed files one at a time from Wowhead.
Meanwhile, there's another issue that I need to ask about. You see, there isn't a direct equivalence of icons to items. For example, the file "inv_belt_80" is used for both Old Leather Belt and Mountaineer's Belt (the white leather one, not the green mail one), but these items have different in-game appearances and I'd like to assign them to different icons. Is this possible?
Minor note: the files on Wowhead are in jpeg format, not png.

For example, the file "inv_belt_80" is used for both Old Leather Belt and Mountaineer's Belt (the white leather one, not the green mail one), but these items have different in-game appearances and I'd like to assign them to different icons. Is this possible? No. You can change icons, but not their association to items.
Minor note: the files on Wowhead are in jpeg format, not png.My bad, Wowhead uses JPGs, while Wowpedia uses PNGs for icons. Still, doesn't matter much to your average image editor, while BLPs still require a special program to convert.

Well, crap. That pretty much hoses my entire plan.
Thanks for the help, though.
