Final Fantasy? I was only a big fan of VI. IV was pretty good too...never really got the big following VII has, it was only okay to me. Other than that, I either forget them or never tried 'em. Maybe I should...
Yarp you should.

Give me a good story and I could care less about.... well really anything else as long as it is playable. As such I was a very, VERY huge fan of FFXIII. The characters really drew me in... despite Vanille's shrill voice of DOOOOOOM. <3 Lightning. Looking forward to FFXIII-2.
Yeah, I agree about the storyline, I think the characterisation was done very well (even though Snow's incessant "I'M THE HERO!" attitude didn't sit very well with me, but that might have been some
clever
lampshading
, and Hope annoyed me - but then again, he's like
8
14).
Edit: The main thing about the gameplay that annoyed me was just the auto-attack option. :/

Yeah, I did that too, but it was more than a little jarring to have a good combination of moves
automatically selected
for you. Hopefully the sequel will be more like, not sure how to necessarily describe it, but more like a single-player game rather than an RPG (I suppose a DMC style of combat, or hell, even more like Kingdom Hearts). It looks like the storyline will be as good as the original too.
And yeah, I empathised with Hope even when his angst pissed me off. With Vanille's voice of doom though, I think it was cleverly done for her to be over the top with her cheeryness, considering it was all a
mask
. At a stretch, it could also be viewed as some form of foreshadowing as her of
half of Ragnarok
.

Kingdom Hearts is amazing, simply because it's SquareEnix and Disney in one go. <3 Such good nostalgia, and storylines and characters of course (seems to be a strength of Square's materials, really). In terms of the older FFs, IX and VII are probably the best ones, and 4 and 6 are also impressive from what I hear, but I've not played them. I don't rank VIII very highly, but that's personal preference. With 7 particularly though, the effects are quite hard to get over if you're used to more modern technological and aesthetic advances in gaming. The characters are just polygons. ;) Also worth noting that voice acting was only introduced in FFX, so the earlier ones don't have speech.

4 6 7 8 9 are definite plays for the Final Fantasy series, as is the PS FF Tactics; the GBA/DS Tactic games aren't bad, but don't match the original. And of course, if you have a PSP, pick up Dissidia 1 and 2...and hell, if you have a PSP, might as well pick up Final Fantasy 4 Complete heh.
On a side note:
heh
, yes I'm bad lol.
But yeah, the KH series is getting there in regards to the FF ones, but you know...all the games are connected lol. Can't wait for newest DS game(even if I have to get a N3DS to play the damn thing) and then the eventual KH3 game.

The only FF games that were anywhere near as limiting as XIII were X and XII. All the other games, after the hour or so intro, you could pretty much roam around and do whatever you want. You may not be able to do EVERYTHING, but you could certainly do something. In fact, many of the FF games have sidequests that can only be done at certain points before the final disc / chapter.4, 5 and 6 could limiting; yes at certain times you could stop and go out and grind, but for the most part you were on rails. And 1....well, with 1 it was a straight path, with little to no side quests. Even in 9, which is the most open, you still got locked into a large number of things where you had to force it through before you were free again.
And the combat was the worst part. Not only did you not get to control your entire party, but they simplified controlling one person so much that it wasn't any fun. If you're going to only let me control one person, at least make it challenging / interesting instead of just letting me press Auto-Battle over and over. I really like the Paradigm system, but it was just horribly implemented imo.Eh....can say the same for all the games though, depending on what you do; unlock the entire Sphere Grid in X and you just have to hit attack to wipe out the opposite party, even Grand Sin at the end. Or transforming Terra and have her decimate all enemies with the Atma Weapon... or Vivi's AOE spells and etc etc. It happens a lot in Final Fantasy games; started with 7 in all honesty.
