Atheists still make me chuckle; they are believing non-believers and a 'religious' group in their own right.
I just backspaced out a huge rant about this. It would have all be in vain though, and there's really no point.
I'll just leave the TL;DR that would have been there:
What a crock of $%^&.

Heh, no worse then how some atheists view all religious people though.
Edit: I don't mean you and HoleofArt of course.

Meh, you have a point there.
It seems like very side of every argument has 4-5 idiots for every sane person along side them.

Idk some atheist certinly preach like its a religion.
I remember the other day in wow I was trying to bark up some of those Mysterious Fortune Cards scribes make that I had on the AH, and a gentleman named Dikdervin said in trade "blah blah I bought a bunch and never won anything blah blah" So I responded with "chance to win 500, 1000 or even 5000 gold! unless your dikdervin in which case you wont win $%^& because God hates you!"
Obviously a joke right? Then anothe rgentleman pops into trade taking it seriously going on a rant about how there is no God, a rant that he continued past people ignoring him for like 5 minuts, going on to talk about how stupid religious people are, ect.
I seem to see atheists being a lot more preachy of late than your average person of faith.

Well, your first mistake was referencing God on the Internet, and more specifically, in World of Warcraft. Aside from the fact that we all know the internet is completely full of trolls and people acting like morons behind their keyboards, the existence or non-existence of God (or a similar being) is still highly debated everywhere.
I obviously meant it as a joke. You just said on the Zombies thread "I dont beleive in Zombies any more than I beleive in God"
Isnt that the exact same thing?

That really makes no sense and really isn't relevant to this discussion.
"Bald is not a style of hair. It is the absence of it."
/shrug That might be, but it still makes me laugh. I don't have anything against any Atheist(merely individuals who have done something in the past that has affected me), but I like that
they have more or less formed a new religion around Atheism
.
And people who shave their head bald would possibly say different to your analogy.
Shaved head =/= Bald, though. If you're bald, it's not growing back, if you shave it, it can. Also, I should really dispute the bolded part, as it's woefully misconceived. Some Atheists have organised themself into a culture, or a 'movement' or sorts, but really... does this mean every culture is a religion? Besides, calling an Atheist religious is
asking
to be flamed.

I know the point you were trying to make, but you chose the worst possible (and incorrect) way to describe it. :P

Eh that's true; was tired after an eight and half hour shift where idiots screamed in my ear all day.

Also, Heckler, you're embodying the whole "Us vs Them" that Adams is talking about.
Well maybe it sounds like that, but I'm not part of either side (Unless of course you meant "Us vs. Them" as in, "those who think Organized Religion in general is silly", and "those who think All Organized Religions are silly, except One" -- then I would say yes, I'm clearly coming down on one side of
that
debate). I was just pointing out how from a non-involved observer of these discussions, statements like "religion makes people moral" doesn't lend much support to any religion, in fact it gives a lot of support to the view that religion in general is
dangerously
powerful and arbitrary. As you stated, you believe
your
religion, and that all the others are fiction.
But you have accept the reality that you
could
be wrong -- and if that's the case, then a complete falsehood has dominated and shaped your entire life. And even if you're right, then everyone who is a true believer of a different religion has devoted their entire lives to a work of fiction. The simple fact that
both of you
truly believe
simultaneously
that one religion is the work of God, and the other is a creation of Man... that's enough to convince me that neither of you should be so confident in either conclusion.
I tend to view this whole debate as silly, from both sides (ie. I think "Evengelical Atheism" can be just as silly as other religions -- there are a lot of ignorant people who are just picking a team and recruiting members). My view on religion, basically stated, is that it doesn't matter. If God exists, then he exists whether or not I believe. If he doesn't, then he doesn't whether or not I believe. It can't be proven either way, and therefore it's not worth thinking about. I don't need a religious text rife with hypocrisy and self-contradiction (don't take that as an insult, every single religious text meets this description in some way, and a couple atheistic books do too) to help me waste time thinking about something that doesn't matter.
The depth of my own theological views -- for anyone interested -- are that I choose to take actions that I hope will make this life a better experience for as many people as possible. If God doesn't exist, then that doesn't change my attitude at all. If God does exist (here comes the theological part), then I would like to think he could look at my life, my actions, look into my heart, and know that even though I didn't follow all the rules of whatever religion has it right, I was a good person, a worthy creation, a net benefit to existence. A God that judges based on anything else wouldn't be worth believing in anyways.

There was a religion thread a while back, but I think it died. Besides, it's so broad that 3 or 4 different arguments might be happening simultaneously, if it were to be resurrected. Or might not, but still - this thread is fairly specific. However, I think
Religion - The Horse that Refuses to Die
would be just as valid, but much broader of course.
