Few minutes late - Ezra's Phoenix
Return to board index
Post by
xMelchx
While I was typing my entry for the 'What achievement are you most proud of?' contest, the thread closed, it took me kinda 40 minutes to write the story, and sadly I didn't get to share it with ya'll, so I hope it's ok to post it here and let people read for a few minutes and think about Ezra all the people suffering this terrible disease.
My favorite Achievement is
Ashes of Al'ar
. Sadly there's a unpleasant story behind the achievement for me.
After seeing this mount for the first time I got really fascinated by it's story. For the people who don't know the story behind this Achievement, here is a quick recap, quoted from
this page
were you can read the full story;
Micah Chatterton and his son Ezra '
ePhoenix
' Chatterton enjoy playing World of Warcraft together. Sad thing is, 10-year-old Ezra has a brain tumor. The diagnosis isn't good; metastatic cancer. Splitting headaches started in March, which led to an emergency room visit in April. Doctors had to sedate him for the pain and he didn't wake up for a week. Groggy and weak in the hospital, Chatterton only wanted to play the massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft.
When the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening cases, came calling, Ezra knew exactly what he wanted: "I wished for a trip to Blizzard because I'd like to see if they could make a character and do some things for us!"
Some time later, father and son arrived at Blizzard's Irvine headquarters in a black limo to tour one of the world's most successful game companies!
Ezra Chatterton's enthusiasm kept him going all day, even getting out of his wheelchair to lob some bombs. By the end of the visit, he'd probably spent nearly seven hours with the Blizzard team...
Kyle's Gone Missing!
Ezra got to design this quest, which is given by Ahab Wheathoof. Kyle was Ezra's dog
Crossbow of the Phoenix
"Finely crafted to Ephoenix's specification".
Ezra Memorial
Sadly, at the age of 12 Ezra passes away,.
From that moment on, I ran Tempest Keep every week for over a year, and after 49 runs, it dropped and I got it. But every time I fly my Ashes of Alar, I think of him and all the people who suffer from this terrible cancer.

That's fine--and a nice write-up! Sorry you didn't get to share it with us. Always thought what they did for Ezra was very sweet.

It's a very sad story and a reminder of how great life, and wow, really is..!

I admire what Blizzard did for Ezra, and although I never got the chance to get the mount myself, I think of a close friend I lost to cancer every time i see the phoenix.
Rest in Peace, Ezra.
Edit: What TrollDruid said. Come on guys, show some respect and delete your posts or post something less dishonorable.

Its an awesome thing Blizzard did for him. Ive been running TK as often as possible for the same reason, but I have still never even seen the drop. Oh well. Keep on trucking week-after-week I guess. Its too bad how few people know the story behind the Ahab Wheathoof quest and the crossbow too...
I'll cross my fingers for your next run!

Whatever. This isn't just internet ^&*!wad theory playing out, I honestly feel this way. Same with any overly mushy, seemingly heartfelt expression of concern for some random person.
Every time I see an "Oh my God, my prayers are with you in your trying time, I'm so sorry to hear about this. Rest in Peace. I hope everyone takes stock in their life and realizes how truly blessed we all are" I want to vomit.
Call me a horrible human being, but I really, really don't care.
Is it too bad the kid died? Sure. Was it cool what Blizzard did? I guess. Do I want to read a bunch of replies of sympathy so that random internet people can show how supposedly compassionate they are to some other random internet person? Not really.

Perhaps not, but you should aspire to be like us; you'll get laid more I swear. Chicks dig a sensitive guy and the internets is a great place to practice.
What is it with random internet dudes and their focus on other peoples sex lives, exactly?
Further, what in the hell does it have to do with anything?

No, i absolutely see your argument, and I understand what you're saying. But this thread is almost specifically a "R.I.P Ezra"-post. As such, if threads like that bother you and make you want to vomit, kindly refer from posting in them to avoid conflict.
No; you don't need need "a bunch of replies of sympathy so that random internet people can show how supposedly compassionate they are to some other random internet person", but if you decide to do so anyway, I find it a tad odd that you choose to reply in a way that can easily be misinterprated as either trolling or just pure flaming.
You're very much free to express counter-arguments, but there really was no argument in the first place.
I think we're drifting away from the "Topic" guys. Let's not turn this into an argument in a thread that was created to be nothing like that.

I'll not be responding further to anything but the original post from hereon out.
That response:
Every time that I ride past the character voiced by Ezra I get a bit misty-eyed. It's a very fitting tribute, and I'm glad Blizzard did it for him.
Yes, there are millions of children every year who die in unfortunate circumstances; that doesn't mean we should ignore the ones who get some sort of special recognition such as this. Thanks for sharing your story, OP.

zdouse, pull your head in.
If you don't agree, then don't post.

I agree with Zdouse to be fair a jerk is still a jerk whether they have incurable disease or not.
Before the flaming I'd like to point out that my Dad died of metastatic renal cancer not that long ago, so I know, and still feel, the pain of losing a loved one to cancer. In my personal experience this was one of the best things that Blizz have done over the years and I personally salute them for doing this. There are a lot of things that still make me well-up and think of Dad which can be slightly embarassing for a 32 year old male but remembering them and what they stood for makes us stand out from the rest.
