Dear Tanks, You Suck.

Just 3 points I'd like to make:
1) Plumbers get PAID to be plumbers. You are compensating them for their skill, and so they better have a certain level of skill to earn that money. Tanks VOLUNTEER to take what is probably the hardest role in the group, and so saying that you can hold a tank to the same level of professionalism as someone you pay to do a job is not a fair comparison.
2) I am a DPS on every toon, because I KNOW tanking is hard, and I don't want to do it. I try to cut my tanks and healers some slack, because I know they're doing a job I'm not willing to.
3) Most good tanks are in good guilds, and so have no shortage of DPS and heals to run with that they know and trust, and probably have a good rapport with. If you have a straight up LFD group, then the tank is more likely to be new, inexperienced, or not have guildies that will run with them.
So- are there bad tanks? Yes. Is it all of them? No. And to expect tanks who have had time to perfect the skill to be the ones in LFD, with no friends or guildies running with them, is a little optomistic. LFD is a training ground for new tanks and heals, and a place where excess DPS get their runs, then the guild tanks are not around.

Except that's the exact reason that I am allowed to complain. They had a choice to be tank or DPS, and they chose tank. Therefore I expect them to live up to the choice or gtfo and go back to DPS. Whether it's hard or not is a non-issue if players can pick whatever role they want.

Ok- so, the REASON that we should complain, as DPS, about people taking the harder role which we're not willing to do, and giving us the benefit of easier runs, is because they chose to do so. So, then, when your spouse shovels your car out of the snow for you, so you don't have to do it yourself, by your logic, you have more of a right to complain about the job they did than if you paid someone to do it, because they did it by choice and if they didn't do a good job they should GTFO and not shovel? I feel like you probably don't get a lot of repeats on favors from people, huh?

There as several things wrong with your reply.
Nowhere have I ever said that we should complain (and I quote you exactly) "about people taking the harder role." The issue is complaining about tanks not being up to par.
If she bashes in my window while doing so, you're exactly right, I'm going to complain. If you're going to choose to do something (whether it be tanking or cleaning off cars) you better make sure you're competent enough to perform the task without making life even harder on the other people.
The tank is not doing anyone a favor
by failing to tank correctly.

If so many tanks leave a group, maybe the problem isnt with the tanks...

The problem with tanks in LFD is that all the competent tanks quit using it due to all the M&S and elitist assclowns.
LFD now consists of two primary types of tanks: incompetent ones, and people that enjoy berating from random idiots over the intertubes. You might get lucky and find a good tank in the latter group, but most sane people (like myself) moved on to only tanking for friends and guildmates.
Blizzard was already trying to push us to more insular guild play with Cataclysm. Thanks to the idiocy of the Internet,
mission accomplished

I once pulled threat from a tank by autoattacking the boss. No skills, nothing else but pure autoattacks.
I don't trust DK tanks any more.
Hold your horses my dear friend. Don't insult me and my fellow DK tanks :) This type of comments make the lesser smart forum readers believe its the norm.
I'll bet you 5bucks you would never ever , not in your wildest dreams or all the heroic gear you can carry that you can pull threat from DK that play it right ;)

** I lied ... Sorry all ...once a guildmate of me took aggro from me. He is now sleeping with the fish. He died in that instance due to trigger happy fingers ... The mob's came straight for him, I didnt want to disturb the mobs..just let them rip his head of . ..then I made my move ... all good..
I never said that all DK tanks are bad. One of my guild's tanks is a DK, and he does wonders. But I don't trust LFD DK tanks any more.
My apologies for not specifying further.

There needs to be a harsh punishment for tanks that join and leave.
I am so totally behind this proposal. Make their Dungeon Deserter debuff last twice as long, for example.

Welcome to Wowhead Crimson. It's nice to see another unrelentingly hostile player join the site for the express purpose of spewing bile on everything. How novel.
Yup, it's definitely 'spewing bile' to tell people that they should have a vague sense of what they're doing before they hop in a random where four other people are counting on them not to be stupid.

I dungeon PuG. Randoms are always higher on the DPS then 70% of my guildies, and I usually get a competent healer.
I'm the tank that doesn't care how many insults you fling at me. I'm doing the job your to afraid to do. I'm getting my shield and face bashed in while your either behind the boss, or 30 yards away. I'm needing on any useful piece, MS or OS.
If I get kicked, I grabbed another instant que. Have fun with the far less patient tank then myself. BTW, you're standing in the fire.... AGAIN!
