Respeccing my Warlock for the 100th time, respeccing my Paladin for the 100th time, respeccing my Warrior for the 100th time, respeccing my Death Knight for the 100th time, respeccing my Mage for the 100th time, respeccing my Shaman for the 100th time, and sticking it out with a fail PuG raid on each of the previously mentioned toons for the 100th time.
Probably well over 10k gold on respecs and repairs alone... I know I'm not alone here, though :-/
Buying a full set of Darkcrest BoE plate armor for my Paladin before stepping into Outlands was a fail, but I still have them and they still look good :-)
Buying the mats and leveling Alchemy to create some of the mats for Sageblade in Vanilla WoW with my Warlock was a fail when NOONE on my server had found the Design for it. LOL! Eventually got it, but it was like several months later...
Spending 1k gold on the Isle of Quel'Thalas dailies title when I still didn't have my epic mount... and I still don't own one on any of my characters...
Yes... I'm terrible with my gold... I'm sure I'm forgetting a billion other instances of gold-wasting moments...

There is always the stuff you waste gold on. And you kick yourself afterwards.
But my best example recently...I am a tank, but my Arms DPS gear is half-decent. And while tanking a dungeon, I got myself a Battered Hilt.
After a bit of "should I sell for cash or just do the quests" I decided to do the questline. Im a sucker for story. And it was an awesome story. Loved the stuff in Dalaran (which I could re-play that quest). Wasnt too hard finding groups for the dungeons since I was a tank. Finally done with it, handed it in (really late night) and out of it I got
Quel'Delar, Might of the Faithful
- A sweet new 2-handed sword to replace my 2-handed Axe... Oh, I will need to respec my talents to pick up
Sword Specialization
over
Poleaxe Specialization
.
I find someone to chuck and enchant on it, and they actually put Berzerking despite me giving them less mats because my choice of enchant "didn't do it justice".
Its late night (like, really really late night) so I decide to call it. Next day I wake up, log on, and start chatting to a friend on the phone. Portal over to Stormwind, goto Wu Chen (the only warrior trainer I use). Casually talking to my friend and mention to him "Oh, Respec costs have been reset!" because my respec seemed alot cheaper than the last time I remember changing it. Accept, Bars wiped. Curse a little at the fact some of my bars are emptier because of talent-bought skills... Wait.
"F&$k."
I was still in Tank spec. I did the dungeon in it, did the questline in it, did the enchanting in it, and logged out in it.
Just lucky I was able to load up the Profiler and re-enter my talents for Prot.
And just for kicks, I just recently changed professions. Could have used some extra gold for that.

Wayyyy back when, before there was an AH in Stormwind, when I knew nothing about WoW, I spent 2 gold buying a 10-slot bag from a vendor. Silk packs were about 50s. I did not know this.
Trivial money now, but at the time it was nearly a week's savings.

I bought hella Saronite Ores off the AH for like 10g a stack and re-listed them for 20g a stack, sold 1 stack.
Bought mats for 40 crit scope, put it on my new gun, to replace it the next instance run.
Respec to BM, only to respec again putting in wrong talents.
Respecing like 10 times in 1 day.

Yeah, freaking PAIN IN THE BUTT to level that crap!
50g for 1 jade or whatever other low level item is insane!
I find it costing me about 1.5k to level JC all the way up, for little profit.
Enchanting is the way to go.

I've wasted a
lot
of gold.
Probably the biggest waste of gold was the Shattered Sun title for 1k g. I was bored and I didn't have it, even though I'd been exalted with the faction for ages /shrug
But clothing of all kinds, tabards, mounts (78 atm, working on 100...don't even like the dragonhawk reward mount and will prob never use it), pets, train set+wrecker, low level green BoEs so I can dress up like NPCs and confuse lowbies (that's hilarious btw), both of Haris Pilton's bags, bling for my bank alt...the list goes on.
And I don't regret a single copper piece.

Gryphon rides.
Seriously; why is it that a flight from EP to IF costs 9s, and a flight from IF to SW costs 45s, but a flight from EP to SW costs 22s? Furthermore, who mapped out the flight route from Auberdine to Un'Goro, a 3 year old with a learning disability playing connect-the-dots?you wont have to worry about the auberdine mess anymore sweetie. Horde have taken to using it in lieu of installing a sewer in Orgrimmar.

Leveling engineering late one night and wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Ended up learning EVERY schematic for about 80lvls until I realized what I was doing >_< Wasted about 100-120G on that...ugh.

My first character was probably around level 10, when I saw
Green Lens
in AH. It didn't have a minimum character level to equip, so I thought it was a rare find and a great deal for 10 gold. I asked my brother for the money and he gave it to me from his level 60. When I told him what I bought and asked him why I couldn't equip it (I wasn't at 245 skill of anything let alone engineering), he just thought I was the biggest idiot in the game. Which, in retrospect, wasn't far from the truth. I still laugh at the idiocy.
