you know when thinking about it, the artwork we saw a while ago of events to come of Cairne and Thrall saving kids, it kinda feels like Cairne here in this instance as where he's taking part in trying to save lives. I really hoped to see that come about, but looking at what happens in cata, this event is something like paying last respects to Cairne and Magni.

Magni isn't dead dead yet.. merely transformed into stone; possible he'll be back at some point.

This should happen in the Crossroads.
The Crossroad's are under attack!

Well, it kinda does ... in addition to the big phased events that happen in the cities, throughout the world (including Outland and Northrend), there are a series of elemental rifts constantly opening and closing. The Barrens gets Fire, and one of many rift opening spots in that zone is right in the Crossroads (Ratchet gets one too, right at the end of the docks so hard to miss).
Zone rifts are appropriate to the level where they spawn, but they are still vey dangerous. Anyone in the area can help close a zone rift regardless of level or faction. Any NPCs in the area will ignore you and fight the rifts. As an example, Alliance toons on the PTR have walked right into Angmar's Hammer in Dragonblight to fight the rift that spawns there and the NPCs did not attack them. When they rifts close they simply reset, giving you time to get out.
If you help close a rift that is in an area that is a level appropriate to you (ex: your toon is lvl 15 and you help close the Crossroads rift), look for a "mysterious device" left behind. Click it to pick up a quest to go talk to an Earthen Ring rep in one of the major cities. I believe there is also an achivement if you close all four types of rifts out in the world (earth, air, fire and water.)

and even lorthemar theron
You lie. You are totally lying. Lord Never Does Anything cannot ever lose his title.
ja ja ja xD my bad, at the time I tought all capitals were under attack, but it seems only Orgrimmar Thunderbluff Stormwind and Ironforge get hit.
thus even when on the PTR Lorthemar does has a new model (well, his old model but with more decent gear) he doesn't participates in the battles at all.

in a nutshell, this event will be divided in multiple phases, and during the whole event all of stormwind, Ironforge, Thunderbluff and orgrimmar will be completely phased, and all regular NPC's (including trainers, banks, and AHs) will be UNAVALIABLE, if you have need of any of these services while the event is underway, then go to a different city, because the mentioned capitals are kind of busy surviving an invasion.
so,im assuming this is a instanced thing right? like,it isnt gonna be all of a sudden im buyin crap from the ah and the next minute "orgrimmar is under attack" and poof everything in the city goes unavailible
cuz that would suck
it's phased, but it affects everyone regardless if you wanna participate or not.
when you hear the guards yelling for the civilians to evacuate you know you have about 5 minutes to get out of the city, portals will be made that will take you out.
wich is why once you're tired of doing the event over and over and over again, My recomendation is avoiding the 4 affected capitals untill the event is permanently removed.
after all Darnassus, Exodar, Undercity and Silvermoon won't get affected at all.
Thanks a lot.
Is it just me or your English improved a lot in the last year?
yhea ^_^ practice does that :P
Awesome little guild Rank. Enjoyed reading it.
u're welcome (I guess you meant "guide" but yhea :P)
odd that it's not nominated for sticky, I know a lot of folk who got confused on the PTR with the event.
ohh well, when the event goes live I'll bump this as often as I can.

Nice write-up. It looks like Blizzard is getting better and better at making starting events.
This event looks like it's going to strike that perfect balance between disruption and avoidably.
If an event doesn't disrupt normal gameplay at all, it doesn't feel all the threatening. During the BC event you basically had to go looking for trouble in order to find it, and actual disruption was kept to a minimum thanks to Kruul being on such a short leash.
In Wrath, they swung it too far the other way. Durring the events hight the game was basically unplayable for leveling characters. Sure it was great fun for high level players, but low level players could find no sanctuary anywhere and earned nothing but repair bills.
In this event, Blizzard has taken a few steps to ensure that leveling players can participate and aren't likely to be completely destroyed by accident. By making the elementals level appropriate, everyone can get some rewards. By putting in a 5 minute evacuation period, they ensure low-level players can get out of the city before they get killed. By making 2 cities per faction unaffected, they ensure players uninterested in the event can have a safe place to do business. And finally by making all city services shut down during the attack, they ensure the attacks are taken seriously rather then simply ignored.

very good job Rankkorr <3
I just have one question, doesn these quests give any exp? will it help my lvling progression, or is it just for lore and fun?
You're most likely going to need 75 to do the quests (like the Echo Isles/Gnomeregan events) and 80 for the bosses, so won't be much help for a leveling character. (unless you happen to be 75 at the time)

the event itself gives no EXP, and you need to be 80 to do the bosses anyways.
that being said, the quests do give exp, even the daylie ones, the normal quests require to be 75 or higher to do them, so unless u're at the adequated level, you're out of luck.
the daylie quests give exp (or gold if at lvl cap) acording to the zone in wich the rift spawned. As such, you can't expect a rift from westfall to give the same as one from un'goro, or one from shadowmoon, or one from dragonblight :P
funny thing about the daylie quests is that they can be done as many times as you want.
That is to say: is the same quest (grab object, turn it on 1 of your capitals) and this quest can be done multiple times every time you close a rift elsewere in the world when the elements that spawn from it are of your lvl. This can be repeated as often as you want, or untill u've consumed the 25max daylies you can do per day on any given toon.
so just lvl, and if you happen to find a rift while leveling it, close it, it's a nice buff, and free exp that can be gained up to 25 times per day.
is not much, I know, but it's better than the nada rewarded on the pre-bc event, or the pre-wotlk event :P
