I don't need to know your brother to know that if he got whacked with a ruler whenever he didn't pay attention...he'd learn to pay attention pretty damn quick, ADHD or no. I'm not saying that whacking kids with rulers is the way to go. I'm saying that ADHD is a copout for parents that can't teach their kids discipline.Heh right.....because if you discipline a child with a disease, you'll make the disease go away.
Lol, nice edit there Aestu.....

That's circular reasoning. So you know he has a disease because you say so, so there's no reason to try disciplining him?
But what if the discipline got results? Then wouldn't that indicate the disease wasn't real in the first place?
No it wouldn't; that's like saying if you hit someone after every seizure they have, it means you 'cure it'... which isn't true. You can discipline a child acting out, but you won't suddenly force him to pay attention; that's more or less the point behind the disease, had you actually have spoken to people with it. They can't help themselves when they become distracted and hyperactive as it's an imbalance inside of their brains; the medicine they take helps to make sure the connections which don't normally fire do so, even though it slows them down and makes them slightly out of it; good thing/bad thing.
No offense Aestu, but I'm guessing you've never actually encountered anyone with ADD or ADHD have you? I have, both in school and as part of my family, so yeah... your 'discipline' to fix them idea? Load of crap.

But you haven't truly tried, have you? So how can you be so sure?
Why was it that in the past, parents and teachers were able to get results, and this so-called disorder simply didn't seem to exist, for the hundreds or thousands of years that kids have been educated to a higher standard than today? If it's real, why does it affect only children? At what point and by what means does it disappear?
If your back was to the wall - if your life depended on it, or at the very least you had the choice between doing what was asked of you and losing something important, or being punished, you would pull it together, wouldn't you? A guy who can't walk or see won't walk or see no matter how much you threaten him, but somehow I think if your life depended on you focusing for an hour, you'd manage to do it.
What if you were drafted into the army and you got a drill sergeant who just wouldn't take "I have ADHD" as an acceptable answer, and he harangued and punished you for failing to focus on a task for long periods of time? Would you remain unable to focus? Or would you pull it together for fear of his abuse? I mean, haven't armies drafted entire populations and managed to get young people to do just that without running into "ADHD"?
But we should believe you when you say its not real right? Doctors have documented it since the 1900s. Its just the problem today with it is kids see their friends taking stuff like Methylphenidate (Ritalin) and even Dextroamphetamine and Amphetamine (Adderall) and they want it too so they start acting as if they have ADD, parent takes their kid into the family doctor, Doc asks some questions and boom more than likely the kid is being prescribed adderall which in all honesty no kid should be taking and the Doctor is making his money.

First, more then likely in the past, those with ADHD were probably set to the menial jobs in society so if they completed them or not wouldn't matter. Second, if they were drafted before the disease was properly diagnosed and were sent to war... they were probably in the group who was killed. Third, now a days, it's easily dealt with by medication, you don't need to beat a kid to get results. Fourth, your an idiot, who hasn't backed up a single claim you've made; I don't know what kind of messed up family you grew up in, but believing that you can beat a disease out of someone, makes me fear for your children.

It seems like you're the one making unsubstantiated allegations. Probably this, probably that. In other words, your belief rests on assumptions that don't appear to have any basis in provable fact.
Well, seeing as the only other alternative would have been locking them in sanitariums, where they would undergo forced lobotomies like so many other 'mental unhealthy' types back in the 1800's to mid 1950's..... best bet for it. Of course, you can't prove that beating a child would make them stop being ADHD so yeah.... at least my probably's are based on the medical ideas of the time before it was officially diagnosed as a proper mental disease.
But hey, continue to prove your point while tearing down mine, your just that reliable. Also, you never responded to my third point... oh wait, you can't as you've never actually associated with someone with the disease, and your evading my fourth because it's spot on eh?

MrFreeze059 why did you necro a thread from 20 days ago?
I don't understand why such blatant thread necromancy is so common on these forums.
20 days is a bad necro? He added something to the discussion, and it's not like it's one that gets old anyway. Perfectly acceptable in my eyes.
