So uh, has anyone done any research at all into the last ~3 patches on gear score? You get built-in recommended GS for raids, which are lower than insane pug leaders want, as well as a score corrected for failings/successes of a person's gear. If I put all my tank gear on on my druid I'm sitting at around 4.3k GS, but it auto-adjusts it to something like 3.4 for resto because it realizes that all of my gear is fail for that spec. If it didn't value stamina so universally high it'd give me something like a 2k GS for resto in my bear gear automatically. If that's not enough, you can click someone in inspect range and it gives you a very easily readable breakdown of their successes and failures, gearing-wise.
Yes, it gets abused, but there's absolutely
nothing
intrinsically wrong with the addon. Which means this thread is a giant collection of 'random strangers have slightly unreasonable expectations (they expect me to grind heroics!) and they don't somehow magically know how skilled I (think I) am! Some of them are also not proficient in the use of every addon they use!'

My gearscore is fine. Yeah yeah, you hear that a lot, but I'm serious. I didn't start raiding on my mage (my third 80) until I had my full Tier 9 from Heroics. I don't run GS, I have a solid reserved spot in a weekly ICC raid, and I'm not really hurting for VOA/ICC 25 invites either. I have no direct contact with GearScore at all.
I still want to rip out this guy's balls with a rusty spork. I don't care that *in theory* it has a reasonable use; the majority of the use is moronic at best, and griefing at worst. The overall quality of the community, both in-game and on forums has been drastically lowered since this add-on was released. I didn't know that it was possible to make Internet people worse, but this jerk somehow managed to do so. He has ruined my trade chat, every forum I visit, and half of any conversation I have about WoW.
It's like someone took a dump in the shallow end of the pool. Sure, I'm only using the deep end, but he still just took a dump in my goddamn pool.

So you want to remove the current impetus people are using to be dumb, and think that'll make life easier? They'll find other methods to misunderstand so that they can fail to comprehend what goes on around them.
As I said, Gear Score is not responsible for any stupidity one encounters, especially not since improvements were made. Only the form one encounters it in.

That just doesn't hold water. People were less stupid, trade chat was less annoying, and forums had less whining about PUG raids before this add-on was available. It *is* this guy's fault. He took a dump in my pool. Even if you say it's inevitable that eventually SOMEONE would drop trou and pitch a loaf in the water, the fact remains that *HE* (or she) is the one who did it. He's a , and he always will be.
The new features haven't made the users of the addon less annoying. There is no fixing this. He's made the game tangibly worse in a way that can never be fixed.

got a simple GS story.. Last night queued up for HHoR and got a group instantly.. Great composition I thought with a DK tank at 40k hp warrior dps at 33k hp, lock and feral druid..
During the first 3 waves I was healing my ass off just to keep everyone up cause EVERYONE was taking dmg (mind you I'm disc so spamming flash heals and shields left and right).. So I zoomed out to see why everyone was taking dmg..
DK had dropped DnD on the first wave but managed to forget ever dropping it again.. His GS was 5190.. Needless to say I ran OOM on the 4th wave trying to keep everyone up and we wiped.. I got &*!@ed and asked the DK wtf he was doing and to get a clue about how to tank and he dropped group.. Everyone proceeded to ask wtf that DK was thinking not dropping DnD etc etc..
Picked up a pally tank with a 4800 GS and it was a great run after that.. Never dropped below 22k mana (I have 29k buffed)..
GS is great if you just want to get an idea of what you're dealing with but it'll never replace skill and knowing how to play your character..

This is actually very interesting. Is there already a name for this, or can I make one up?
edit: ah, I found it, there's already a name for it.
Blame Syndrome
. To quote the most relevant part:In such situations, the blame generator only helps to reveal an inward frustration ranging from the inability to take charge of the emergent situation.Frustrated with the current state of his surroundings and his inability to change them, Braevia turns to the most apparent source to place the blame on.
This. You show me a person who said trade was ever a place of Voltaire and monocles, and I'll show you a person who's making up reality as he goes along to suit who he decided he didn't like.

I once have been invited to a TOC25 pug on my dk, now i had the 10 man achievement from a guild run to link so that was sort of fine.
At a point i got removed from the raid, RL whispering me my GS was too low. Now, i dont have the remote idea what my DK's GS is, but having alot of experience with the game i know where i can go and where i cannot.
I manage to get invited back telling him that if my DPS is sub-par after 1/5, he can kick me.
I ended up 7th/18ish in DPS, my guildies being 1st and second. Later i managed to know my GS was something around 4200, and the people between 7 and 18 all between 4500 and 5200 (
including a ret pally with a 10 mp5 meta
).
That was a fun (and surprisingly successful) raid though, but after anub the RL ninjaed all the loot and left the raid lol.

Avoid my server, Kel'Thuzad. It's full of elitist that would make you want to /headdesk.

Call this a necro, but I just heard that GS will be broken next patch.
That was in trade chat, but is that true?

They're throttling inspects. It's very unlikely to affect GS all that much.

Also cool story. 10 mins after my shaman hit 80 I got into a VoA 10 with a whooping 3400gs. The other healer was a resto shammy as well, with 5440gs. At the end of ice boss I checked the meters and I did more heals per second than he did. With LESS over healing. lolwutgs
It's called heal-sniping. The more geared, the more your heals hit for, so the longer you wait before healing someone. You, with less gear could start healing sooner. So, you'd end up sniping most of his heals and would overheal because of it.
It's part of the reason my lvl 70 twink can match heals with nearly any lvl 80 healer that come on a raid with me.

They've added stuff to VoA.
You haven't added stuff you your gear.
4970 GS (since retards rely on this useless retarded add-on) it's way good to get in VoA 25. Ah, and you're an useless stupid jerk.
This. Using GS properly is one thing. Adding a little bit to compensate for the fact a PUG is made up of strangers, and usually have no patience (disband after one wipe O NOES) is another. But when you get some idiot who asks for everyone to outgear a raid to the point where they don't need any drops from there, they need to be called out and told they're a scrub.
On my server, Fizzcrank, I've seen people want 5.5K for ToC10.
TOC10
. With a 5.5k GS you don't need a single freaking thing from ToC10, so why would you even bother to go there? The only reason these high requirements exist is because some scrub wants higher-geared people to carry him through a raid, like most people get carried through heroics without having use their head anymore.

I don't understand. My gearscore is 19, counting bullets (I don't have a second weapon). Where do you guys get all these extra gearslots?
Also, people ask me to link achievement. But when I link achievement like
http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=224
or
http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=1957
they become annoyed and I can't join the raid.
Which is about as serious as one should take the GS and achievement nonsense.
Even better is showing that you're
overqualified
, and then seeing them either invite you instantly, or just reply in a very confused way because they don't have a clue what actual raiding is.
When it comes to overqualification, I just link Glory of the Icecrown Raider. >_>;
