I'm actually impressed by the amonunt of immerssion some of the characters in WOW have.
I can't help but hate the living crap out of Garosh (probably the most well made character IMO).
I also can't help but sympathize with Thrall and his task of establishing peace and order amongst the horde with all of it's issues and pressure from King Varion who also displays a good detail of anger coupled with a justified history.
There is also Jaina's classic concern for her friends.
In this story overall, I want things to happen that have not happen and I want things to change.
But when I look back and take a writers look at this. I become very impressed at how much "Want" the writers at Bliz pulled out of me.

inb4 a certain user's declaration of love for a certain character.
I agree that there are some well made, well-rounded characters in WoW. However, some characters need more fleshing out (such as Garrosh; who to me is currently a bit of a panto villian at the moment.) Or are just poorly characterised - like a few of Knaak's pets.

Meh, it's not like I don't sympathize with Thrall, I just don't like him or Garrosh as characters.
Thrall is a white winged halo adorned do-gooder, without even a darker side to his good (More vicious). His only flaw is that he trusts too much. I mean, what the hell is with that?
Garrosh on the other hand, is a war monger human hating orc supremacist, with no apparent reason. While I like him a bit better as a character because of the fact that he does what he thinks it right, even if objectively wrong, which makes him both good and bad. I just think he needs to be sculpted a bit more.

you forgot the DK starting zone, now THAT is toying with our emotions.........
first we're all like "yay I'm with the scourge, long live the lich king DIE SCARLET DOGS!"
I seriously felt no remorse or pity when I killed scarlet villagers even when I knew it as wrong (they may be part of an evil organization, but still killing non-combatats is wrong).
I also felt no remorse about torturing the scarlets with the burning spikes.........
and then they dropped that bomb where u're to kill the argent dawn prisoner........
add to that the fact that the first DK I made was a night-elf (love their tatoos) :S I felt a nasty feeling in my stomach as I had to land the killing blow against someone who was pretty much your surrogate mother...........
the writers seriously pulled off a NICE stunt there, making us litteraly hate ourselves for killing someone else. while at the same time trivialized the deaths of scarlet civilians by making them say stuff like " I have a sick grandma at home, i'm all she has please spare me" now that sounds like an excuse to save his worthless butt, and I Don't bout it.
but with the argent prisoner seeing and recognizing us from our past, and beging us to kill them.........
I wasn't capable of doing it, I hesitated, and had to restart the quest (the prisoner dies of their injuries if you don't kill them within 5 secs)
the DK starting zone is a wonder of EXELENT writing, and I'm hoping the goblin/worgen starting zones are as equaly epic.

HOW TO CREATE GARROSH.
Step 1 : Have him regret the actions of his father without understanding them.
Step 2 : Have him see the actions of his father in a new light.
Step 3 : Have him want to LITERALLY become his father while everyone in a over 9000 mile radius facepalms.
